Do "D" or "E" load tires affect ride?

If anyone has had any experience with D or E rated tires on their tacoma please comment on how it effected the ride. Im looking to purchase a sport or offroad and will put 265/75's on it.

Nope, I’ve got E’s (KM3s, only available in E in 285s) and the ride is fine. Now, they are stiffer than a C but I’d rather my suspension do the work it was designed for. I know many will complain about ride being stiffer with D and E rated tires, if they’d tune their suspension, they’d find it can’t still be a fine ride. (I prefer the ride of a little stiffer tire, results in the truck being a bit more sure footed)

 

I would say from my experience it makes a huge difference along with the amount of pressure you run.

EDIT Brand/model makes a difference as well, the KM3 feels like a run-flat compared to say my Dura-trax.

 

I prefer E40, much more coherent on the road.

 

My skinny 255/85/16 cheap Maxxis Bighorns are D rated. Cant compare them to E rated but they are a hell of a lot smoother on the road than the 35" KM2s and KM3s i had on my Jeep

The R/T 's have been killing is for me o the Traction. What is D rated mean anyways?

Don't let others bullshit you. Damn straight it makes the ride much rougher. If anyone says otherwise they are full of it.

 

The ride is rougher but not too much that you can't get used to it quickly.

 

MPG takes a bigger hit with E rated. If its a daily not you dont wheel hard get C-Rated. I run E-Rated the ride has always been fine lat couple were K02 and currently on KM3.

 

yeah huge difference between 3 ply 6/7 plys and 10 plys. 10 plys are awesome if you think your gonna run over glass and not want to give a F***. 3 plys are plush but wear very fast and are not very tough.

 

Definitely makes the ride rougher. Lowers fuel efficiency too. And decreases acceleration by way of increased unsprung mass.

I’m on my second set of 265 KO2s and the only thing that kept me on the load E train was the peace of mind that sharp limestone isn’t going to shred my sidewalls when I’m out in the desert.

Sure, they look cool, but if you won’t actually use them with moderate frequency I would stay away. My $.02

 

I have been driving on E rated tires on Tacomas for well over a decade. In the winter I run normal winter tires. What a difference... so yea. In terms of ride quality there is a big difference, i find especially over sharp edges like potholes or train tracks the E rated tires will be a lot more..jarring. Also off road you’ll have to air down sooner than you would otherwise.

 

Although tires count as unsprung weight, it is not the increase in unsprung weight that affects acceleration/deceleration. What happens if I weld a 10lb weight to each of the LCAs and each side of the rear axle?

It's increasing the moment of inertia with the mass of a heavier tire that affects acceleration/deceleration.

 

Don't get E rated tires unless you absolutely have to, meaning you do rough off roading that tends to cut sidewalls.

 

Of course they affect the ride. That is why Tacoma's don't come with them. They are made for much heavier trucks.

P.S. For almost the same price, an Off Road is much better than a Sport!
