Hey there 1st gen 5 luggers. I’m looking for any information or personal experience you have regarding cross compatibility between Toyota Pickup/Tacoma 7.5” rear ends. Most of what I have read is that there is a good amount of cross compatibility between 1976-2004 7.5” rear ends and select front ends as well. However, from what I understand, there are several different carriers found throughout those generations, and I’m unclear whether an IFS front end differential can be run in the rear as a direct swap. Does anyone have any experience swapping an older gen Pickup/Hilux differential into a 1st gen 5 lug?

The reason I ask is because I am finding more stock higher ratio differentials online and locally from earlier generations that I’m hoping are actually compatible with my 2001 Base Tacoma. Ideally I could track down some 4.10s from an older Pickup and pop it in without much hassle. I was surprised that I didn’t find much information on TW or online, so I figured I would reach out to you knowledgeable folks for some insight.

    Thanks!
