I have a 2nd gen 2005 tacoma and my engine temperature gauge isn’t working. The needle doesn’t move at all. I changed the coolant temperature sensor and it still doesn’t work. I should mention that I changed my dashboard LEDs but I don’t think the problem is caused by that. My needles spaz out a little bit because I changed the Dashboard LEDs and when that happens the needle moves a little but then just dies again. I’m changing the water pump and thermostat soon too. Any suggestions?

    Welcome.

Good to know just what engine .

There are two coolant sensors one is a sending unit for the gauge.

The other one is a coolant temp sensor that tells the ECM when the engine is up to temperature to reduce the idle to normal.

Is it possible you changed the wrong one??

I have a 4.0 v6 engine and I changed the sensor that is in the back of the engine block near the firewall. I’m not sure where the other sensor is because there i couldn’t mind much information on the sensors. I even checked the fat repair manual books.

I bet something has come loose in your gauge cluster, probably a ground wire.

Thanks I figured out that it was the motor for the gauge needle that died so I need to replace that.
