    Hello All,

I am putting a 3" Rough Country suspension lift on my 2015 Tacoma. I purchased new 17" Tacoma rims and would like to put 285/70/R17 tires on my truck. Will they fit without rubbing or trimming?

    Thanks

    Like, so many.
Maybe, but the issue is more the width than the height, especially on stock wheels.

Agree, the 285 part is the part that most worries me

You'll want to think about the offset of the wheel and width of the tires. Alignment with a bit more positive caster will help as well to minimize or to have no rubbing.

It’ll fit. But not without some work. I’ve got 1.25” wheel spacers installed with the stock TRD Sport 17” wheels (7.5” wide and with the spacers, roughly a -2 offset) and I’m running a ~3” lift. The tires are 285/70/17s and even with adjustable UCAs to push the wheels further forward (more positive caster) I had to trim a lot of plastic out of my front wheel well and the bottom corners of the front bumper. I still rub the front on full lock over some bumps but I haven’t had any rubbing issues in the back. I’d highly recommend adjustable UCAs or you’re gonna rub the cab mount. And most people will tell you you’ll need a CMC to fit these size tires anyway, but in my experience, with the right alignment settings you should be fine on the road and during mild off road situations. If you want to do serious off roading, you’ll need to hammer the pinch weld, do a CMC and probably a lot more trimming (and you’d want a better quality lift anyway).

Hello, 19 Trd Pro owner..I too am looking into KO2 285/70/17. I just bought the TRD Pro 4runner wheels..will I require a CMC since they're a +5 offset? I also plan to get a lift as well.

I wouldn’t put a 285 on a 7” wide wheel, but that’s just me... most tire manufacturers recommend a minimum of 7.5” width for the 285.

Either way, with those wheels you could probably avoid the CMC by installing adjustable UCAs with your lift. Or go with a thinner 33” tire or even a 275/70/17 (albeit, a harder to find and usually more expensive size)

You’ll need a minimum of 1” spacers. Otherwise your tires will rub the UCAs.

I had 285s on my TRD Sport 17” wheels with 1” Bora spacers. This setup gave me the equivalent of a 4.5” backspace. I also installed Light Racing UCAs; and rolled the ball joints forward to the -1.0 “E” location. This moved my wheel-center forward 1.25” and therefore alleviated the need to do a cab mount chop. (If i used 1.25” wheels spacers, I don’t think this would have worked without a CMC). I had zero rubbing even at full stuff with this setup.

    Looks good man!

I originally had 1” wheel spacers on my setup but upgraded to the 1.25” thinking it would help with rubbing. Looking back, I probably should have stuck with the 1” size.

And I have the same UCAs on my truck, with my upper ball joint in the “D” position. I had them in “E” before my first alignment and when the caster came back at 4.5+ degrees I decided to move it back one setting. I didn’t want that much caster as I feel like the steering wheel gets sloppier over bumps the higher the caster gets.

Either way, the stock wheels and the spacers are about to get the boot. I’m seriously eyeing some SCS F5s in the 17x8.5 -10 size and my tax return might just be burning a hole in my pocket.

Thank you. At “E” position, I was able to get factory caster specs...

Oh man, I’d rub the crap out of the cab mount at factory caster specs. I got camber and toe both to 0 but caster has to be 3+ degrees to keep the wheel far enough forward to not rub the back of the wheel well.

But remember - I moved my wheel-center forward 1.25” with the adjustable upper ball joint. That’s why I got factory alignment specs and didn’t rub.

I have this exact wheel and tire combo, on my 7” rims, and it works just fine, no problems. Although I do wish my rims were 7.5-8”
