Is there a difference in gen 2 and gen 3 short bed size? I am looking at buying a camper shell. I found one in good shape. I have a gen 3 and from what I can tell there isn’t any difference, or from what I can find. So I figure I would ask the experts before I buy it.

The reason I am looking at a used one for right now is because I am now sure I will like it or not. So I figured get a cheeped used to see.

Yes, there is a difference. 2nd gen camper shell/topper/cap, does not fit 3rd gen. Bed rails are different, tailgate.

Ok . Thank you for responding. Well that stinks. I get it though. I just wanted to test one out to see if I like.

The bed size remains the same but the tailgate is much thicker. A cap from a 2nd gen. will not fit correctly on the 3rd gen because the rear swing up window of the cap won’t match up with the tailgate. Only caps specifically built for 2016 or newer will fit.
