Purchased this for trips this spring. We have a large cabin tent and a couple backpacking tents so why not a truck bed tent. Going to nearby Mammoth Cave National Park next weekend to test it out. We've been car camping and backpacking for 20 years so we have plenty of gear.

Our plan is to buy a bed shell and camper trailer in two years but we'll be using this for now.20200308_152454.jpg 20200308_152547.jpg 20200308_152500.jpg 20200308_152505.jpg

Both are Stock - built correct from the start.
Make up a saved Craigslist search for a Tacoma topper for an area your willing to travel to. It will alert you when pops up. Since you’re not in a hurry, it won’t cost you time. That’s how I found topper for previous trucks for a couple hundred bucks.
I’ve got a bunch of saved searches for things I want, but aren’t going to pay stupid prices for.

    start your shell hunt early.

the trick is being patient, also a willingness to drive a little bit.

As a poorman, i like this setup. I need to do some more reaserchign on the bed tents but they seem a viable option to the RTTs.

As a fellow SX owner with a shell, if youre planning on camping in it (especially with another person!) I cannot recommend a raised roof shell enough. Granted, I sleep on a sleeping platform to maintain some in bed storage under me, but the extra roof height would do wonders.
