So I want to add a subwoofer...

Dealing with ********* is a nightmare, 3 weeks and still waiting on them to ship there IN STOCK items. I just gave them the hammer today, either ship it today or PayPal will be getting my money back since they IGNORED my emails regarding a refund. Suggest anyone to NOT buy from them

 

After reading all the negative reviews about taco-tunes, I decided to give them a shot. Boy I should have listened to the reviewers and should have purchased a custom subwoofer enclosure from mr marv. The customer service before and after the purchase is non-existent.

 

Yeah....I had a bunch of questions that they somewhat ignored and told me they would ship me a harness with a slight modification to a certain terminal that I went back and forth on the cs rep with.... Yeah no, I got the normal harness like we never had the conversation lol

 

I've got an 8" powered sub under my drivers seat. Wired it to the rear door speakers. More than adequate, but far from earth shattering Bass! No regrets

Also replaced the tweeters with the OEM Subaru (Kicker) brand tweeters. THAT WAS THE BIGGEST BANG FOR THE BUCK. With the sub and tweeters, and I have no need to replace the door speakers.

 

Im looking to add a sub to my 3rd gen as well. I just want a little extra bass and don't really want to use my backseat storage right now since I use it quite often (no sort of storage add ons currently so bin storage is still a want right now). I have not ever installed subs before so this would be new for me. I have tried searching internet for this particular set up to see if anyone has installed in a tacoma yet.

it has good reviews besides one recent negative one (sounds like someone got sent a used one and wrong one but didn't inspect before installing). I figured for a little over a $100 including a protection plan with Amazon this could be a nice little set up for under my front seat.

Has anyone used this? And if so, have any install links? Thank you in advance!

I went with a Mr Marv box, carpeted it and through a JL 10TW3-D4 in. I was able to fit the box in the larger storage bin by cutting a half moon for the lower section of the driver and removing the plastic from the back of the seat. I added the JL grill (does not come with one) to prevent the driver itself from coming into contact with the seat. Requires a bit more of a push to lock the seat in place but it works.

 

If you've ever had a real sub in a proper enclosure before in another vehicle you'll be very disappointed in that little rattle box.

Likewise if you listen to anything with moderate bass you'll be majorly disappointed.

For the time, effort and money you're going to spend wiring that you would be much better served getting a dedicated sub and amp with a matched box.

 

I followed the path of least resistance..kept the factory 6.1" headunit ..upgraded my components..added a 5 channel amp and kicker 8"sub...which sits perfectly between the jump seats in the back.

 

@reloader403 and @Superdave1.0 my plastic storage area has this bin or “Ledge” inside of it that would not permit fitting of the powered sub. I bought the one that Dave has and am wondering best way to go about fitment. I have an oscillating tool. Wondering what blade is best for plastic ? Anyone have tips ?

Try the tool you have. If that doesn't work, a sawzall, dremel or angle grinder will all make easy work of cutting plastic. Is it just this cubby that's in the way?

 

@Superdave1.0 Yeah that’s the cubby Got the same sub u have is yours the 8” ? How do u like it. ? Yeah if I can remove that ledge it’ll fit nicely. Kinda hate to cut the oem material but she is also almost 12 yrs old and it’s behind the seat lol. Your truck is looking sweeet. I’m doing a big audio overhaul.

 

A Dremel with a sanding drum will allow you to grind down that lip very fast..... And cuts look choppy no matter how steady the hand.

I took to it this morning and I’ll admit I was a tad nervous cutting on my truck and it was the first time I’ve used my Dewalt oscillating tool but man if that isn’t the most handy device! I def have some rough edges but like you said you’ll prob have those anyhow. Posting pics for those in the future since I couldn’t find any of the plastic storage bin cutting process on here

 

You can use the subwoofer panel it fits over the stealth box

 

+1 for just making a box the size of the middle rear seat, putting some cupholders on top of it, fastening it to the seat frame with a QD system, and not worrying about space anymore.

EDIT: +2 for extending it all the way to the floor board and running 3 10's in the cab
