Well after narrowly missing both at @jberry813 and @Anderson in Bishop California within miles of each other, I figured I'd start a thread specifically dedicated to posting where you're headed so that other Drifters might have a better chance of meeting up. The "Wedge life" and "FAQ" threads are great, but cover a lot of other great info.

The rules are simple. If you're headed somewhere and you don't mind running into people with friendly faces and a Drifter, post up the dates and area you'll be in. No need for exact coordinates or whatever (unless you want). At best maybe share a cold one with another and check out a different Drifter.

Thanks man. I am kicking myself for not turning around. I figured there was no way it was a Drifter and had to have been the other brand. I see those often and each time I do I'm glad I went Drifter :headbang:. Of course this time it was actually two other Drifters :annoyed:.

Haha, yeah it is pretty filthy. Cleaning the interior right now actually. Exterior will wait until after the rain over the next couple of days.

For sure. More than happy to show it off. If you ever make it down here just hit me up.

Heading to Baja, mostly between Bahia de los Angeles and Loreto, for spring break. Friends are bringing their kids and using a VW Eurovan high top camper. Our main mission is to visit whales in Laguna San Ignacio.

and eat all the fish tacos...

I usually take 395 down to Tecate and through San Felipe.

Picking up my Drifter the 16th. Will be at the East end of the Mojave Road on the morning of the 18th and out there for 3 days. Then off to Death Valley for a few days. Trona Pinnacles, Red Rock/Dove springs for a few days. Then Lone Pine/Alabama hills for a few days. Heading north to home stopping in Bend Oregon for a day or two. If I see a drifter I’m stopping because all the cool kids have them.

If anyone has suggestions for things we shouldn’t miss I would appreciate it. It seems every time I take a trip I find out about cool stuff I should have stopped and seen.

Those tracks I sent you worked “okay” when I did it a few weeks ago but they were a little bit problematic because it wasn’t all one fluid track; they were just small sections and every time I got to the end of a section, I had to find the next section on my GPS (guessing by date and time). Of course, I’m no genius when it comes to using a GPS so maybe there’s an easy way to link them all together! I had the Mojave Road guidebook with me which is helpful for seeing all of the sights, some of which are off the main route.

I think it depends on what software you use. On my iPhone with MotionX-GPS it’s like you say but on my Kyocera with Osmand+ it’s one long track. I have the book as well and it seems to be clearly written.

I was using my old Garmin Montana from my adventure bike. Pretty small screen compared to the other options for Overlanding in a vehicle, but I’m familiar with it and really like it. The book will be nice, especially since starting on the east side. Have fun!

I'll post back when I have a more concrete timeline after install but I'll probably be traveling from VO headquarters to SoCal (and maybe San Dieago) around the first week of April.

Definitely open to a pit stop along the way for a meet up.

Lobster rolls from Sam’s Chowder House in Half Moon Bay sounds like a good idea. Gonna park up along Hwy 1 to picnic along the beach tomorrow.

Have two sons who live in SF... one takes us to Sam's Chowder House... the other to New England Lobster Market & Eatery near SFO. Check it out when you get a chance, let me know what you think. Warning, like Sam's Chowder House parking won't be fun.

Well I got the Drifter installed but my son didn't go with me so I just high-tailed back home so I could go someplace more local with him soon.

I’ll have to check that spot out. We’ve been to Sam’s several times, and yes that parking lot sucks. Couldn’t park there today. Just did curbside pick up and they brought it out to us. Everywhere along Hwy 1 is closed so we had to go a little more north to find a place to park near the water

Hope this is a good place to ask... Californians, Jeffersonians, Oregonians, Washingtonians:
Time to camp again with wife and grandkid. Typically do State campgrounds but having difficulties getting reservations. So need to put on my big boy pants, start thinking disperse (BLM, etc). Appreciate if you PM your list with GPS coordinates or directions from major Freeways/Highways. Near Mountain and Beaches.
    Path 1: CA(San Diego, SoCAL, Central, Northern)-Oregon-Washington-BC
Path 2: CA-Utah loop (Grand Staircase Escalante, Capitol Reef, Canyonland,Valley of the Gods, Mexican Hat)-Diamond Creek/Grand Canyon
Caveat 1: As just us three, prefer no need to air-down or risks of needing recovery.
Caveat 2: Welcoming, Friendly, Safe. I am old, thick hide. BUT No unpleasantness for grandkid. They gots to love the HAPAs!
