Any reason I couldn't lift the truck with a forklift by lifting under the frame on one side?

Just looking to change the wheels out and it's the easiest thing to use to lift the truck.

Pro tip with OR's. Pop the caps off by hand to prevent scratching them on lug removal.

 

Iv done this with forks on my tractor.. I have 2x4/ that go over the forks and bolt to them. Stick just the tip in there..... and lift enough to pop em off.. I mainly do this so I can use the electric pressure washer and clean the underside with ease.. just know your machine lol don’t flop er over!

 

1.) What's the capacity plate say on the forklift? More than 5000 pounds I hope.

2.) Can you do it on rough concrete, with chocks, and no chance of pushing/slipping during the lift?

3.) Anything hanging below the lift point? Don't use blocks between forks and frame. If you can't lift with direct contact, don't do it.

4.) Use jack stands. It's too easy to accidentally lower the forks mid-job.

5.) Fuck yeah, go for it.

Yeah as long as u don't crush anything lower than the frame, go for it. I believe C of G is right at the rear view mirror line. Thats just a rough estimate though. We moved a PT cruiser at work with a forklift because they parked in our road closure.

 

I have done it in the past with other vehicles. I would throw a 2x4 or something between the forks and the frame. Just to prevent any damage.

 

On a double cab, you could just roll the windows down and stick the forks through the windows to get all 4 tires off the ground. Super easy. Might have some balancing issues on an AC though.

 

This just sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

 

So positioning your truck for a forklift then operating said forklift into a position that allows you to more or less unsafely lift the vehicle and hold its position while you change tires is easier than a couple of hand pumps on a floor jack?

 

So long as you keep safety in mind and have video, because we want to see.

But of course. If you use the right forklift, there's no reason this shouldn't work. Just make sure you let your insurance know you want to use a forklift to change your tires
