    Hi everyone, I just bought a 2016 Tacoma TRD Sport double cab. Also, I'm new to this forum and I was wondering if there is a Motor oil brand or specific type you guys would recomend I use as well as the filter. My truck has 72,000 miles on it and I cant decide if i should go with a high milage specific oil.

    I stick with Mobil 1 full synthetic 0-20

    Hi Blu. Welcome. If you just want to do a quick search for oil recommendations on here and get comfortable for about a week of reading old threads and arguments...

    The only common theme in that discussion is do whatever you want and it will be good enough. Me personally? I wouldn't consider your engine a good candidate for "high mileage" oil.

    Mods? Yes.
    Toyota's OEM oil is made by Mobile 1 and it is 0w-20 Full synthetic, no reason not to use that. Owners manual clearly indicates that if you use a different weight, you must go back to 0w-20 on the next change.

    No reason to put any more thought into it IMO :thumbsup:

    Mobil 1 full synthetic 0-20, by the way 72,000 miles is far from high-mileage on a Tacoma.

    Any 0w20 is fine, it's a synthetic only grade, so you really can't chose a wrong oil.

    I'd just buy whatever is on sale, and keep the intervals up.

    Enjoy your new to you Tacoma. Stick with 0w-20 synthetic and you'll be fine.
    I'm on my 3rd Tacoma
    98 XC sr5 4 cylinder 4wd
    00 XC sr5 V6 4wd
    19 DCSB OR 4wd
    First 2 treated me really well, the 19 only has 5500 miles so time will tell, but I'm confident in Toyota quality.

    Doesn’t really matter all that much. Any rated 0w-20 will fit the bill and do just fine. Main thing is to keep it full and stay consistent with regular oil changes.

    As others have said, stick with the recommended
    $52 0W-20 oil Toyota/ exxon mobil Case of 6 Quarts Full Synthetic TGMO SN 0W-20 Oil
    0W-20 oil. Personally, I like the 0W-20 Mobil 1 brand. No need for a special high mileage oil.

    Be careful when it comes to ordering oil filters online. That includes Ebay and Amazon. There are some authentic looking Toyota counterfeit filters out there. The stock Toyota oil filter is very good quality. If you choose to use the Toyota filter purchase it directly from a Toyota dealership. Some dealerships do advertise online. Or purchase a store bought Mobil 1 oil filter.

    There are some good tutorials and videos on Tacoma World regarding oil / filter changes. You just need to conduct a search for them.

    Take into consideration the recommended oil type, weight, and change intervals your owners manual lists. Send a sample of used oil into a analysts lab (my personal favorite is Blackstone Labs) and go from there. The Advice you receive going this route will be based on specific and unique properties of your engine and the type of wear it experiences. What works best for one person on this forum may not work for someone else living in a different climate, with a different driving style, etc.

    When purchasing on-line (Amazon) check to insure oil filters are coming from a legitimate Toyota dealer and that it has the Hologram to help guard against purchasing counterfeits.

    I did some research and bought Amazon oil. It is a good quality oil for a good price. I will be changing my trucks oil every 5k miles so if I save some money I’m good.

    Please those purists don’t throw crap on me... I did my homework and Amazon oil is indeed a very good quality oil.

    Want to share your research sources that lead you to say it's 'very good quality'?

    Not saying it isn't, but documentation other than someone internet strangers claim of 'I did my homework' would be useful.

    Especially since it's just an Amazon label, and just like Toyota oil and filters are not made by Toyota, but the low bidder.

    Any chance you've had it lab tested?
