I’m looking into getting a Line-X paint job done on my Tacoma and I’m not sure if I’d have to report that to the DMV/DOT. I tried looking it up, but no solid answer. Anyone in Washington state get a paint job done did you have to get it changed or no?

Non WA resident here. Why would you have to report a paint job to the DOT? Here in CA, there's no law stating we need to report a color change to the DMV that I could find.

I’m not sure to be honest, in case you get pulled over and they question why the registration says a different color? Wasn’t sure if registration needs to be updated stating the different color or not.

Okay, my truck is currently black so there shouldn’t be an issue if I went to an army green color? If I do get pulled over just explain the situation.

Give the Dept of Licensing a call (or if you're a glutton for punishment, actually go in). I'm sure every state is different. I live in WA also and have never repainted a car. Report back if you get the answer, I'm curious what the deal is.

In my state all it comes down to is going in and changing the main color on the registration when you go to renew your registration. Just tell them it's a different color, show the receipt of the Line-X, and point to the parking lot. It's not like you have to jump through a ton of bureaucratic loopholes.

It's not like you are trying to change your race on your birth certificate.
