When I was in the process of upgrading from my tonneau > bestop supertop > hard shell, I always considered my peace of mind leaving my truck unattended when considering each upgrade. However, I have never had an incident where anyone tampered with my storage at all, leading me to wonder the actual statistics of who has had their truck broken into, had things tampered with, or stolen?

Only time I ever had my truck broken into, my roommate forgot to lock the manual lock on the passenger side of my 2002 nissan frontier... Thieves took all my shit and my wheel lock, lmao.

It would be helpful to mention what kind of cover you have or what brand if you vote. I'm curious how this will turn out.

Yes, ironically it was in the dealer's fenced maintenance area waiting on a part. The guy just snatched the window open and stole a couple of items including an old Cold Steel SRK that I'd had on a lot of trips. I still hope the thief dies/died a horrible, painful death. Yes, I hate thieves.

I interrupted a couple of thieves in the process of breaking into my truck in the parking area at the lava tubes north of Flagstaff. As we came out of the tunnel entrance I heard someone yell something to the effect of "let's go" and saw two guys jump in a car and leave quickly. When I walked over to my truck the driver's side slider was open but they hadn't messed with the screen yet. They can die too, maybe just not painfully.

I still leave camping gear in the back but I toss the sleeping bag and an old Mexican blanket tossed over it kind of haphazardly so it looks messy. During the summer it's not uncommon for me to leave paddling gear in the back.

I know folks who've had their trucks broken into, it's not uncommon at the boat landings and some of the trail heads.
