Just using this as an example. So a lot guys calling 4wp schetchy or ripping people off. Most of them say it takes about an hour, so based on that I’m surprised they’re not bitching about Smith off-road’s $200 per hour labor rate. Hmmm! I wouldn’t go to 4wp but I do understand they have employees, millions of dollars of equipment, buildings etc to pay for.

When somebody gives a ridiculously high quote it means they don't want the job. If you think it's too high then find somebody else who will do it cheaper or do it yourself. If you can't do either of those things well then maybe the price isn't as outrageous as you thought and you get to decide how much you really want it done.

It's possible they've never done one. They probably hedged the price a lot to cover all the unexpected time they'll spend getting it right.

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.
Nope they charge $495 here in the bay to do them and they do tons. 4WP just sucks for anything more then bolt on parts.

A few mods here and there and counting....
OP, as others have said. Grab an angle grinder and go to town. I just did mine and welded the plates. Granted the welds look like crap but gets the job done. I'll most likely have my friend clean it up down the road as i needed it done to clear some new wheels going on very soon.
