I am coming up on my 30,000 maintenance and looking over the Maintenance log. I cant find at what point you are suppose to change the diff fluid? I read down past 100,000 and don't see it mentioned. I see special conditions maintenance you change the transfer case fluid at 30,000. Am i just missing it?
    Thanks

You are not missing anything. That said, I swapped mine at 7k and am glad that I did. The 30k level check looked really good. I will swap again at 60k.

Under normal use: Inspect front/rear diff oil @ 15,000 miles or 18 months. Change oil if needed.
Under heavy use (towing, off road, etc): Replace front/rear diff oil @ 15,000 miles or 18 months.

You can't drop a bomb like that without any details.

Any observations? Did the 2nd through 4th look better than the 1st, or all about the same?

I looked through it again and the diffs and trans case isn't mentioned in regular maintenance. I only see it in the Special Operating maintenance. Is there certain miles that you should change?

It's listed under regular maintenance. It says to inspect the rear/front diff oil. Based on the inspection you can make the decision to replace or not.

Do it every 30k and call it day, unless you do some water fun, anytime I put the diffs under water I change.

Well...after the 1st change I regeared to 4.88’s. First two after that we’re dirty (second wasn’t so bad) and the 3rd was clean.

I choose to keep my gears clean because I expect to keep the truck long term

I did my diffs and transfer case at 30k. I'll do them at 60k intervals now.

See previous post. I’ve also gone through different weights of fluid depending on freezing or hot temps. Gears are important and so is a good break-in for new gears.

I go every 30k now when not towing

Thanks! I only got to see what dribbled out of the fill hole when I pulled the plug. I was happy seeing that it was clear, but the truck had sat over night. No telling what the bottom looks like ATM.

Same here. The Taco is staying around until the wheels fall off.

If it came out clear with not many (if any) metal flakes on the magnet you are golden.

I only checked the fill side. I am thinking about tossing a mag plug in there. Haven't yet.

    It was definitely virgin looking.
