    2020 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road
This new year I bought my first Toyota - a 2020 Tacoma TRD Off-Road. I actually purchased a 2019 Ford Ranger with huge incentive offers but returned it within 3 days because I had one of those "OH %#!$" why didn't I buy a Toyota moments... I didn't like the soft humming sound of the 4-cylinder turbo in the cold.... nor the idea of breaking down in a few years! That said, it was cheaper to warranty that vehicle up to 100k miles than it is to get the Toyota without warranty..... except now I won't need it

Now that I have ~5,000 miles on my Tacoma I'm so happy that I got it and I'm ready to modify! I work from home so all of my miles are adventuring and I'll be building it out for that purpose. I would love a lift kit as one of my first mods but I'm a big backpacker and I don't do a lot of rock crawling so I'll be putting my money towards rack systems and other equipment first.

Mine came stock with the OEM Factory tri-fold Tonneau cover, which I really wanted to sell and get a camper shell. But for cost purposes and because a 5ft bed is too short to sleep in anyways and because I already had a Thule cargo box and Tonneau cover, I decided to add Voodoo Fab Hi-Rise Crossbars instead. Now that I have I must say I really like the functionality.... there's plenty of room on the side for more mounting on the rack (bike rack, ski rack, pelican cases, etc), the tonneau gives you a nice surface to use for cooking or skis, and the cargo box lets me throw all my camping gear for easy access without sacrificing the truck bed availability on a daily basis.

    Immediate plans include:
    - Roof Rack, leaning towards the Prinsu design rack.
    - Dog platform on the rear seat (60% side), for my Bernese Mountain dog.
    - Dometic CFX75DZW refrigerator. This is a bit big because I used it in an RV so I have to figure that one out.....
    - 200w of Solar (Already have this) & 200ah of Lithium batteries (Already have this, overkill I know). I'm moving the batteries over from my RV conversion (1997 ambulance, not a daily driver) so this is something I already have and I just plan to move over for summer so that I can use my rig more permanently day-to-day.
    - Chrome delete & blackout

    Down the Road:
    - Tint
    - Rock sliders. I feel like I'll do this before I do a lift.
    - New tires
    - Lift kit??

You definitely won’t be disappointed. I looked at the Ranger and it had very comfortable seats but that’s about it. I think everyone reading this will want to know how you returned a brand new truck after 3 days? LOL

    Thanks!

    Awesome truck deserves awesome plans.

That oh !@#$ moment. Fortunately I was within the 7 day/200 mile limit and the truck had some 1000 miles on it because it was previously loaned. The return policy was a big reason I went with that dealer.

    Thanks!

    What's up from Colorado

Welcome to the Forum. I’ve had three Toyota’s and none have let me down. And I grew up in Toyota’s and they never caused any issues.

Welcome! And...a technical question. I see your 2020 has the "L" shaped DRLs (daytime running lamp). I thought the 2020s have the new "C" shaped DRLs that fully surround the lights except on the grill side. Or, is that only if you get the LED headlight option? I personally like the "L" shape better, so I'm glad to see that is still around.

Good question and it wasn't something I really thought about. I think the 2020 was marketing that the DRLs are stock on more models, not that they're replacing the L shape for the C shape. I was paying more attention to whether or not it came with DRLs at all, not if they were the pro bulbs.

I'm guessing any of the units that come with the regular headlight bulbs comes with the L shape DRL instead of the C shape.
