The other thing I would struggle with is that I like who my mortgage is through--I don't have an escrow account and write the checks for taxes and my insurance myself. Everyone I know who has an escrow account has had issues where the bank didn't collect enough when taxes rose significantly in a year and needed them to make up a bunch in a hurry, or collected too much. I'd rather just handle it, and last I knew most mortgage providers won't let you.

I'm locked in at my rate for 45 days. I don't know why the math doesn't work for you, I'm doing 3.75 to 3.125 and saving hundreds per month, but I'm losing my PMI too. It's more than the payment on my wife's Jeep.

I bought my house in May 2017 and got locked into a rate in underwriting, so they guaranteed it wouldn't go up but wouldn't automatically lower it either. It dropped and I ended up buying into a lower rate. I think it was 4.5% and I paid $200 to drop it down to the 4.375 that it was at the time of closing. That difference pays for itself pretty quickly, so I did it.

I am only looking at the total interest paid, not the monthly payments. I would drop PMI too. But, it really would only pay off if we kept the house or kept it for ~3 years or more, might be moving.

I'll dig into it more tonight. I need to switch car insurance too. Ran a quote and was able to drop from about 210 to 140/mo! :D

I managed to scrape a 3% when we bought our current house, my credit score's not much higher than it was then, and I'm almost 10 years into it at this point, so a refinance wouldn't make much of a difference for us. :notsure:
I AM seriously considering looking into how low & how long I can get on a loan on a dump trailer, though :D
Of course, I'll also have had the Ram for 2 years this April, so I'm sure the 'itch' will start again soon
I'm curious who's going to be offering 0% this spring

My refi is with 0 out of pocket. Unless you cannot do a 0 out of pocket...even if you're there for 3 years and only save $100-300 on PMI, that's $3,000-10,000. I'm not refinancing to save the total cost on the mortgage, I'm refinancing with the expectation of leaving in a few years.

The joke of the moment is that it's because when one person sneezes, everybody around them shits themselves. :notsure:

The real story is kind of silly at least the one I read.

started in Australia. A lot of Chinese emigrants. In China it’s scarce since nobody can go out and the stores aren’t open etc. so people were buying a lot of it in Australia and sending it back home either to family or selling it. Well Australians started to notice a whole lot of empty shelves of tp and started panic buying it themselves. Queue brawls and media frenzy, now ain’t nobody got a clean butt hole.

I got a pack to toilet paper at BJ's last weekend just because we had like 2 rolls left in the house. Guess I should have grabbed two packs of it :notsure:

We got the word to work from home for the foreseeable future this afternoon.

My supervisor’s kid goes to the potter school in Framingham that got the district shut down. We had 5 call-outs this morning. No plan has been presented to us if someone is diagnosed or the office has to “shut down”... we are a 24/7 state gov essential operation. We did get an email on where not to park though....

My wife who's a teacher said the rumor floating around the school as well as amongst other teacher friends in other schools is to anticipate a 2 week school shutdown.

I was at BJ's tonight...it was Thunderdome. There was no fresh meat left. I was buying a couple of tubs of baby formula for the littlest one. I'm not necessarily worried about supply chain disruptions or not being able to ultimately "get" formula...but I am worried if for some reason our town goes into "lockdown" that I won't be able to get my hands on any.

I have a 36 or so day supply now, so hopefully that is enough to cover. I had just stocked my freezer prior to all this BS, so I could at least handle a semi-long-term shut in.

Eh. I tend to buy things in bulk anyway, for this general reason (and because I've got storage space & because it's cheaper) if not necessarily for this particular reason.

Everyone flocks to the big name supermarkets down here, I went to the budget supermarket right up the street and they were a little busier but still stocked up as normal. Everyone forgets the exist and I get cheap brisket. Everyone wins. Well. Mostly me.

BJ's was ridiculous tonight. Saw they were out of toilet paper and paper towels, along with almost out of cases of water
