The only positive thing I can see is that this isn't really effecting children much. Maybe because they don't smoke yet! I'm sure they would have some symptoms and get sick, but not anything worse than when Timmy brought the flu in last year.

China just printed a news article saying they could hold back the meds needed to slow down. This is why globalism is HORRIBLE and why we need to make things ourselves. I had a cousin in 2016 ask me why we needed to make stuff here anyways, what was the point, we don't need those types of jobs...:frusty::frusty::frusty:

I told my wife the same thing the other day actually. I told her that I hoped this bullshit made it clear that the US needs to get back to making stuff here, rather than importing cheap shit from China and everywhere else, boost manufacturing here again. Guess we'll see what happens, but I doubt it'll change much.

I think this is freaking a lot of people out and they will change their tune. People don’t trust China anymore I don’t think after this and supply chains have been moving out of there for a few years now. We will see tho! People forget things quickly.

We've been trying to get away from our China made goods for a couple years now. I'd like to say I saw the writing on the wall, but really, it's a pro American, keep people employed HERE attitude...This just adds fuel to my fire.

I think we're trying to do the same at my job; stop bringing in stuff from China, or at least not as much.

All this stupid shit makes me want to complete my goal of becoming a professional homesteader, grab the family and goats and move to a big ranch in Florida, or Texas...

THIS! I had to explain this exact thing to my wife last night since she got caught up in the hype. She quickly said, "oh shit, I fell for it" Fear is way more dangerous to a population than this virus

This is where most of the problems start. People won't do their own research and depend/rely on the media to spoon feed them bs info.

THIS. The media has whipped everyone into a literal frenzy. My brother said the BJ's in Auburn was like Black Friday X2, but for toilet paper instead of TVs. People getting into actual fistfights for rolls of fucking TP...

And then the shitty media doesn't help... they add fuel to the fire and help spread massive panic all over, instead of reporting intelligently, reporting facts, and helping convey a message of normality.

Reminds me of the shitty media from back home (Portugal), when it comes to newspapers mainly. If you think the media here is bad, you haven't seen anything. WOW! Those peeps are bad when it comes to sports newspapers.

In the long run, mass hysteria is good for the media. They bore themselves into people's minds as this omniscient collective that know what's best for the people. When you have THAT much of a psychological hold on people, it's powerful...And then you have the shitty public education system constantly driving this narrative that the media and government know what's best for you, and your child is better off with them, instead of the nuclear family. I battle this bullshit EVERY DAY my kid comes home. I have reverse everything he was taught that day when it comes to health, government, revisionist history, etc.....It's a never-ending battle....:annoyed:

I'm not one to get excited about the flu, even a strong flu. But I just got an email the library in Danbury is closed until further notice.
It's just all getting ridiculous crazy. I guess the city is doing a hard reset, clean the library, the schools, public venues... Okay I get it.

Channel 61 was talking about 'flattening the curve' today. Basically if the spread of the virus is slowed, the same number of people get sick, but over a longer period of time. Spreading it out creates less of a burden on health care. Better to have 5,000 people in a city visit the Dr. for flu over 3 months instead of over 1 week.

So all this cleaning is about slowing the spread. All the shopping is about being home sick.

I bought Dayquil, Nyquil. I'll go get some more facial tissues to have on hand & soup. But that's pretty much it. I refuse to get excited.

Both my college boys start spring break today. Then they have an additional 2 weeks (till 4/5) of online class before they can return to campus. Uconn and Central. The son at Central was sent home yesterday morning for an emergency closure because of a report that a student "may" have come in contact with someone who "may" have the virus. He said it was total chaos. RA's actually yelling at students to get out of the dorms NOW. He woke up to this craziness and 80 minutes later was on his way home.

Tues we got word that my 6th grader would have an early dismissal so they could prepare for "distance learning" if the need arose. Then last night they announced early dismissal today and school closed for 2 weeks. May or may not be "distance learning". I guess they need approval from the state first. If they don't "distance learn" for those 2 weeks, they will need to make up the days in June but not beyond June 30. If they don't make it to 180 days of class before June 30, the gov. signed a bill yesterday that they missed days are waived.

For my to college boys, one was planning spring break in Arizona with his girlfriend and her family and they cancelled the trip. The other one was planning to go to NYC for St. Patricks day and now he's not going.
