It extends transmission shift points a little longer. A lot of members, including myself, turn it on all the time.

It's mostly used for towing, hauling big loads or in my case, going up mountain grades. It will hold a gear longer. Some people turn it on all the time because it shifts better instead of the ecu trying to get the best fuel mileage and shifting really soon.

It reprograms the shift points of the transmission to allow higher revs before switching gears. Useful if you are towing or driving in hilly or mountainous areas.

I think you're got it mistaken for the button pressed by Michael Knight, a young loner on a crusade, to champion the cause of the innocent, the helpless, the powerless. In a world of criminals who operate above the law.

Doesn't it adjust throttle mapping too?

That is open to debate, but I think no. ECT is in Toyota Jargon is “electronically controlled transmission”. Technically that doesn’t say anything about throttle or fueling. I notice no difference other than shift points. The pedal feels the same to me, but I’m no expert.
