Best place to mount LED pods for reverse?

So I recently bought a camper shell for my 07 Tacoma. With really dark side windows, and the camper shell, it’s nearly impossible to see when backing up at night with just my LED reverse lights. I was wondering what you guys have done for rear mounting of LED pods or even small light bars, to help you while backing up at night. Thanks!

Mount these flush into your back bumper. If you look on the inside you'll see where there's enough room to fit them on each side. I used a combination of angle grinder and dremel to cut out the holes (recommend just using a dremel), then you drill 4 bolt holes per pod and you're set. Ran the wires up one side of the frame with that weather tubing and using zip ties every so often to hold the wires to the frame. You're not going to beat the price and it looks cleaner than any other option imo.

Here's another idea. About 3 years ago I puchased 4" auxbeam light pods and mounted them upside down using a simple "L" bracket. They are mounted under the bumper, but not on the bumper. My truck has a factory tow package so I utilized where the factory hitch connects to the frame. I wired mine to a toggle switch in the cab so I can turn them on and off at my discretion. I've attached a few pictures for reference.

 

What brand of LED reverse lights do you have? If Sylvania, well, there’s your problem. Sylvania LEDs are crap.

What brand of Light would you recommend? I’d like to try light replacement first, then if that doesn’t work, go to the pods.

 

I really like my Deauto LED reverse lights. They put out a ton of light. The HIRs mentioned above put out more light, but I really like the LEDs.

 

Used a stepped drill bit to expose the led pod and two smaller holes to mount the face plate to the back of the bumper. Nice low key look.

I did this a few months ago and works way better!!

 

I have both the GY6.35 bulb upgrade and Rigid SRQ diffused flush mount backup lights installed. I'd start off with the simple bulb upgrade and see if it is good enough for you. Those alone were not bright enough for my situation living in an area that has very poor street lighting. The Rigid SRQs solved that problem. If you do any type of off-roading I would not install lights under your rear bumper. They will get ripped off as easily as the factory tow plug.
