Standard battery for the 2005-2020 Tacoma is 24F, if you add either the tow package or cold area spec on the 2005-2015 it changes it to a 27F. That means there are plenty of trucks in non-cold-areas that have the 27F. Many northern states and all of Canada get the cold area spec, and so have the larger battery either way.

    74404-04050 is for the 24F battery (2005-2020), 74404-04060 is for the 27F battery (2005-2015).

All that said, while the factory battery says 27F on it, the reality of it is that it's actually a JIS 105D31L sized battery. That means that when installing a 27F battery, the factory hold down often won't fit, because the battery is a bit taller than the factory one. If you don't feel like modifying the factory clamp or using an aftermarket clamp, here are the factory part numbers that will allow a 27F battery to fit correctly:

    74481-26020 - Clamp, Battery
    74451-30090 - Bolt, Battery Clamp
    90080-18073 - Nut, Battery Clamp

    Hope this information helps someone.

My '06 (off-road, tow pkg., etc.) came new with a 24F, but "has the option" for a 27F, which only means a 27F will fit. The idiots at the dealership couldn't do it, said it wouldn't fit, so I did it for them. To their amazement, took me 2 seconds to get the back tie-down hooked (I had done it before). I was pressed for time, so I finished the job myself. I even had them handing me tools.
I heard the service writer laughing at them on my way out.
