Toyota Invents New Way To Paint Cars

The innovative new method helps to cut CO2 emissions.

The Toyota Prius was a pioneer for mass-produced hybrids that were a lot more environmentally friendly than gas-only vehicles. Now, the Japanese automaker has turned to an innovative new paint atomizer as another way to reduce CO2 emissions. The airless paint atomizer makes use of static electricity instead of air and, as a result, achieves a coating efficiency of 95 percent instead of the usual 60-70 percent.

What exactly is coating efficiency? It applies to the volume of paint sprayed relative to the amount of paint that ends up sticking to the vehicle's body. With a loss of only five percent from spraying to adhesion, Toyota claims that the new technique achieves the highest coating efficiency in the world.

So does this mean our paint will be thicker than 0.0000000000000001” now?

 

Toyota needs to learn how to apply the paint first before they go inventing painting methods. lol

The new paint method is cool and all but it won't mean squat if the clear coat and the color coat fades and gets damaged prematurely regardless of maintenance and care.

Also, the new method doesn't count if the paint comes off just by breathing on it either like it does on our gen trucks.

 

So....powdercoating then?

 

I've never seen a Toy product that I can recall that had a poor paint/paint job like a GM or Ford product. Pics?

No, that's the goal to have each flake of paint land independent of every other one and not waste a space with 2 flakes on top of each other.

 

Are they painting these things outside? lol 60-70%

 

From what I heard years ago, not something a dealer/manufacturer will warrant/make good. Wonder if they will ignore the piss poor paint upon trade in time?
