Well.....today I was supposed to pick up my new TRD Off Road.

    Not happening.:(

Between the beatings in the market and the uncertainty of things, including servicing a lot of accounts which are calling to suspend service......coupled with not having enough work in busy season to warrant one vehicle per man.....

My new Pick Up will have to wait.
Can I do it? Yes. I worked the numbers 87 times on paper. Should I do it? Yes....I've been driving around the most bare, rubber matted, stripped down trucks for work to build this wonderful business. This one was going to be "mine", for use for some work and personal.

I am really bummed right now.:( Because I would have more trucks than workers. That's just fiscally against everything I believe in. To buy a truck with one now sitting there? With clients calling and suspending services?

I called and cancelled over $3k in fun parts and pieces.

Maybe if I had just taken delivery and dealt with it in my driveway?:D

But right now....I'm still a Tacoma owner Wannabe.

Stay safe...stay smart....as for me....I can read posts and dream for a while.:(

I bought my 2020 a few weeks ago, am I in a crunch no, can I afford it, yes, but looking back I wish I had waited and hunkered down to see what the next few months bring. Sucks for sure, but good on you for being responsible.

Better to be smart about it than some of the guys you see posting about payments, interest, etc.

Smart financial move in my book. This is most likely just the tip of the iceberg unfortunately. New vehicle sales are going to plummet in the next few months.

Good reasons for the decision but I understand the feelings.

Smart move. Most people nowadays don't have the discipline to postpone gratification. If this thing (Covid-19) runs its course quickly, you can always go back and purchase that new truck. If the downturn is extended over the long term, you will pat yourself on the back.

    Sorry, just venting.

I just trained and hired a new guy.....like JUST trained and ready to go. He was going to get the 2016 F150 to use.....my current truck and all the equipment. I'm not about to tell a new guy...."Sorry.....I don't have enough work for you now." The guy busted his ass to learn the trade with me and get licensed. I'm taking a pay cut...or even no salary to give this guy enough work. I couldn't live with myself to cut this guy out. My guys and my customers mean everything to me.
I could do the new truck, but it would just be stupid. I have access to my other trucks as a few of my guys are just part time.
But this one....the Tacoma....was going to be my work/play truck that I earned for sacrificing to build such a great business. THIS...was going to be THE truck I had researched and longed for. And the rug got pulled out from under me.:(
I've been in crisis mode all day and will be all week to keep my customers, all who I absolutely love, from freaking out.

I'm pretty bummed out. Ezra Brooks and Diet Coke.....with a twist of lime.

I hope you all are and stay well. This has been a great forum here....for the little time I've spent on it.

On the bright side, when it comes time to Mad Max all your company trucks, you won't feel as bad as you would cutting up a new one.

I have to tell you. I've built an incredible business. A fun business and one that I love.
I just got a lot of brand new custom equipment 100% paid for.. Haven't even used it yet this year. I invested in some technology and have been growing at 30% a year and have never advertised. I could have grown as much as I wanted but needed to manage growth in order to keep up quality.

It will do well. Five years in and has made a profit every year.. But this new thing is hitting people on a level they really can't quite comprehend. It kind of chews away at their deepest fears. You can't see it.....you can't smell it......you don't know it......till you got it.

I'm now donating time, material and manpower to my facilities that need my help with my equipment. And i would do the same for those outside my client circle. I want nothing in return.
F&#@ it......you only get one chance or so to make it right and really shine with your skills.
It cost me an opportunity to say...."Hey! I'm one of you guys on Tacoma Forums now!".....something I may put off indefinitely until shit calms down.

Happy to call you one of us! Hang here, learn, provide feedback, ask questions and we'll all be here with you when the time comes to get that new truck.

A month later and I might be in the same boat you are. I'm retiring in a few months and the way the market has responded put a dent in my retirement funds for now...but it's only a loss if you have to take it out now. Luckily, for once, I hit the high side.

We are here for you and welcome your presence. You're a good sould and good souls are welcome everywhere.

I'm just trying to be the kind of guy my Dad would want me....and showed me to be.
I've made him proud. And that's good enough for me.:)

    Thank you.

I think I needed to hear this today.
You all have no idea how much I wanted this truck and what I had planned on using it for.
My outdoor pursuits are always a year away......and then things change.
This was wanted so bad....it feels like the proverbial "straw that broke the camel"s back."
I didn't realize until today how much this truck meant to me.
I would have more time for backpacking and wilderness trips.
This Tacoma was, in my mind, symbolic of that.
I'm not going to lie. I'm pretty upset.
The Tacoma was a huge part of that symbolism. It was an integral piece of the entire plan.
I just can't pull the trigger knowing my guys may go without. Because that's what family does.

You made the right decision in the short run. The new Tacoma will still be there when all of this blows over. Do what you've got to do to keep your business and your clients/employees taken care of for now. You will enjoy the fruits of your success even more when things return to normal.
