A Problem with TPMS Compatability

    I bought a set of used tires and wheels off of a 2018 Tacoma, with the sensors still in them, assuming the sensors could be linked to my older 2011 Tacoma. I went to get them programmed to my 2011, and 2 shops said that they may not be able to link the sensors to my older truck. But, they would charge me for their time and effort even if it didn't work. I would appreciate replies from anyone who has experience with an issue like this. Note, I don't want to use my 2011 sensors since they are over 9 years old.

    3rd gen TPMS sensors absolutely won’t work with a 2nd gen.

    Thank you. Well crap. So I'll need to buy aftermarket sensors? Please don't tell me I have to buy OEM!

    I believe that 2nd Gens use a six digit ID code and 3rd Gens use a 7 digit ID code. No joy......

    Thank you all. $60 for the OEM sensors, assuming they really are OEM, is a lot less than I expected. I never expected that the newer sensors couldn't be programmed into the 2011. I thought the only thing to be concerned about is the frequency.

    The vendor above is based in China so doubt they are OEM Toyota - probably knockoff OEM China but who knows and if they work at that price....

    $82 42607-06011 Tire Valve Sub-Assembly
    42607-06011 for alum wheels (not steel) and price at $91 each then online like $65 each. Discount sells and installs with 7 year warranty also for about $60 each as alternate - but all done and covered for you for us lazier owners.

    Find it yup I stand corrected it was another China location but a US Seller. I can at least say I have never had one issue with them.
