Truck: 2017 TRD PRO - bought new, with extended warranty (10 year, 100k)
Current Mileage: 50k, out of basic 36k warranty.

So last weekend I finally found my water leak. Looks like its coming from the CHMSL (Brake light).

Took it in to the dealer to see if it would be covered under warranty. Waiting for them to get back to me with a diagnosis, but not hopeful they will cover it.

Some quick searching tells me not to hold my breath. Anyone ever have this issue and get it covered under warranty? My extended warranty is a little fuzzy, I think I purchased the platinum, but the paperwork is in the truck :/

My warranty was expired for 2 weeks and they fixed the light out of goodwill but not fix my saggy liner nor check/clean for mold issues.

    Lots fixed under warranty.

    Extended warranty?

    Depends on what you bought.

Youll soon know the quality of your warranty or the benevolence of your dealer

This issue pisses me off! Should be a full blown recall.

Right? Even the guy behind the desk noted it was a common issue but its not a recall..................
I'm not much of a "legal action" type, but this might be a good opportunity for a Class action, lol.

Not to ruin your day but there is a guy on here with platinum warranty and he said that it states that light fixtures and weather striping is not covered .

Good to know. Unfortunate, but at least I have the right expectation now...

If you read the fine print on many extended warranties it says they have right to install used parts.

So you knew about it, lowered the seats, and drove through robo wash to film it?

I wonder if I can find the video on Instagram.

As do most insurance policies, although I'm not sure what that has to do with anything here.

Well. Looks like im paying for it. Just glad its getting fixed. Plan on keeping this truck for a long time, and I'm glad I caught it before the cab turned into a fish tank.

Follow up - Got my truck back, with the new iteration of back light installed:

    Old Light (P/N: 81570-04040)

    Note the thin seal

    New light, installed (P/N: 81570-04051 A0)

    Much thicker seal.

My theory (or opinion) is that the compound curve on the body is difficult to seal against if either part is not close enough in shape.
Adding a thicker seal essentially eats up the mismatch and creates a better seal.

Anyways - hope this helps someone out there

I wonder if we can buy just the new thick seal without having to buy a new light .

The old style seal is absolutely a joke!
