Thanks - I stole this from another forum member I cannot recall his name or handle. I like this look for multiple reasons: the stock boot looked like a pyramid which was choking the knob, it exposes the shaft to give it an old school look (as you pointed out), i was able to fit the cement TRD knob, and the way the boot lays inverse now reminds me of how BMW does (did) their manual transmission boots with a nice cup around the shaft...also provides temporary/light storage for stuff.

For anyone that wants to do this, just pull up on the center console (it'll unsnap rather easily), remove the shift ring, drag the boot down, secure with zip ties and done.

I have had one of these on every MT I have owned. Absolutely love it. I just have to figure out what to do about the plastic ring that attached to the stock knob. If any one has any ideas on how to remove it without damaging it, I’m interested.

PS. The description for these will say that it is a 1/2-20 thread pitch, and that it will not fit metric threads. I took that to heart and decided to put a helicoil in it to make it fit. A 10$ drill bit, a 46$ helicoil kit, and nearly 2-weeks of dragging ass to do the mod, I decided to test fit the knob without modding (just for S’s & G’s). It’s threaded on like it was made to order. So, if anyone was interested but not biting because of the Metric vs SAE issue, fear not! Just be gentle and don’t cross thread!
My refund for the Helicoil kit was issued today

Some guys use a rubber washer inside of the top of the boot.

Lift out the center console and cut the tie strap off underneath the boot that holds on the chrome ring. Then slip the boot down the shaft and tie strap it down. Cheapest way and the look is nice IMO.
