So I noticed my ride was getting rough during take off. It felt like my truck was bouncing. I thought it might be a an axle or maybe the diff (since they had just dont the rear diff oil). I took it into dealership for diagnosis. The tech said its the transmission and they need to replace it. 24 hrs later the service agent calls me saying my insurance approved it after the inspection and told me I need to leave it a few days. Have any of you experienced this? Should I be happy about getting a new transmission? I mean it should technically give my truck more life, no? On other hand Ive heard people saying after replacing a big component like that their vehicle never ran the same again.

What insurance is paying for it?

They arent opening things up and messing with the guts of the transmission, but rather replacing the whole assembly...I wouldn't worry about it personally. What did they say was wrong with it though?

haven't heard insurance covering mechanical problems. Was it as a result of accident or do you have a separate coverage for that? Who's your carrier?

Don’t understand how insurance would be involved.

Replacing a part and not tearing into it and diagnosing the issue is the new normal at practically all dealerships now. Still puzzled by the “insurance approved” verbiage as this repair should be covered under the power train warranty.

Maybe you meant extended warranty approved? As long as it's a total new trany you should be good. When they take them apart and rebuild them you start to see problems... mainly bc it wasn't rebuilt well

I work at Lexus and it's always been "don't open the transmission, just replace it".
Maybe they don't want people to know their secrets?

We have replaced shift solenoids, but it's rare.

Wonder if it was a cause of being low from the factory since it’s been mention quite a bit here.

Man I have this same problem with my transmission. Mainly after I try to turn the temperature up and put the truck into 4x4 by mistake.

What do you mean by bouncing?

My truck does something similar where it seems like it doesn't want to downshift, and when it does it "bounces" like someone who is riding a clutch.

mostly happens when slowing for speed bumps or stop lights

My truck has a semi rough feel in the gas pedal around 40-70 but only noticeable in fifth gear, seems to be more noticeable once warmed up too. Its like a rotational rough feel. ECGS bearing is already done, tried carrier drop did nothing. Hoping this isn't my problem too.

[IMG] The best thing about a new tranny is when you reach around and pretend you're going all the way through. New trannys are the best.
