That’s crazy. I’m 5’7 and my head is maybe 2 inches or less from the headliner if I set up straight (truck has a sun roof)


I felt short in my second gen, feel tall in this one though.

 

Quit yer' whining. Too many of the kids driving trucks today only know what the view looks like though the windshield of a mini van. They have no idea how much easier it is to see over the hoods of today's trucks. It's a truck for crying out loud.

One of mine from back in the day with my then 8 year old son. My Tacoma is MUCH easier to see over the hood than this.

This is the best explanation of why the hood blocks so much view. It is not for pedestrian safety, but to give Tacomas a "tough" look which it accomplishes well.

I'd never own a 3rd gen with a scoop because of this, it is terrible in how much if your view it blocks. (and fake scoops are lame)

A few years ago I was offered a new Ford (a big one, diesel) to drive (only inside the refinery) over a 2003 Chevy 2500. I couldn't see the first 5' in front. An accident waiting to happen. I declined, the crew was mad as it had A/C. Oh well.

 

Nah, come on. They weren't as bad. I drove them too and had no complaints. I didn't complain as much then but still.

 

Odd, I had to drive a 2018 F550 work truck a couple hundred miles and it was not hard to see out of or manuever.

Either it had better forward visibility or the proportions of the front compared with the rest of the vehicle just made more sense than on the Tacoma.

 

Heh I remember when the Hummer dealers popped up in the early 00s - and they had that "offroad" course in front of the dealers. Now all of those Hummer dealers have been retrofitted to other businesses or other dealers. You can still see the trademark shape of the buildings.

It’s the damn doors too. I can’t see through them for shit. I have to hang my head out the window to see down beside me. That’s not safe. And then the back. Unless I’m using my camera in reverse, I can’t even see the tow hitch. This truck sucks. I’m selling it tomorrow.

Totally agree with regarding the hood scoop, first thing i did when i bought it is a traded it for a normal one. Even i at 6’ 5” didn’t like how much view it blocked. BTW, I also have 2” of clearance above my head; i tilt the seat back

 

They kept that style 'til '96. Wasn't '97 the year they had 2 bodies to choose from? Heritage and new. I remember liking the look of the old but also thinking the new one was easier to drive. Dam, I hadn't thought about that in 20 yrs.
Maybe next gen. Toyo. will be sleek.

edit: It's hard to believe a truck kept the essential style for so long. I mean grill changes were about all there was on 150's from 1968 to 1996.('81 if you get technical) Slight fender changes. I miss that about trucks. Baby Boomers did 1 thing right.

 

I thought some of the brand new ones came with a front facing camera. Definitely makes spotting for yourself in sticky situations way easier. I don't see it as a terrible option.

 

As long as you see more tech to address problems as 'better'. That's not how Toyota made it's name though.

 

I don't personally understand why people get their panties in a knot about technology. Technology is what keeps humanity from staying stagnant in the dark ages. Get with it or stop complaining. Tech also creates job growth in every sector.
