Hey guys.. so sort of a shitty day today and I could use some insight as to what this may be.

Came home from running an errand and found that someone had left the gas door on my 85 Ford F-250 open.. so I said “oh fuck, great!” And walked over.

gas door ajar, gas cap gone, no one around. I closed the door and went home to rant to my wife and ordered a locking gas cap on rock auto .

here’s the issue- I went outside to check around the truck to see if someone may have tossed the gas cap.. and also to check the door area for crystals of sugar or anything that may lead me to believe they poured something in the tank. Luckily, I found nothing. Unfortunately, not even the gas cap.

Anyway.. I tried starting it to see if they left me any gas and yep.. fired right up. Idled it for a bit, and idled it around my apartment complex to a different spot, gassing it a tiny tiny bit. Felt perfectly fine.

HOWEVER, I found this in the gas filler?


Obviously at first glance it looks like it may be a siphon.. but that’s lodged in about 6-8 inches down from the opening. I’m not sure how someone could lose their siphon that low into the opening. It’s also stuck right at the point where the line turns and starts it’s way down to the gas tank itself.

Can anyone maybe familiar with any of this let me know if this may be normal? I doubt it is and plan on opening the fuel line leading to the gas tank to see how long this is and if it just comes right out.. but thought I’d share and ask first.
