i understand you can recalibrate the tacoma maf.

 

understood, but my issue is not electric signals but hardware application into molded plastic tubing. The Tacoma MAF is circular where the tundra MAF is rectangular. I am asking if I can drop in a tundra MAF, plug in my Tacoma harness and then recalibrate accordingly.

 

ahh. i get it. i have a 3.5 pipe made with the tacoma housing. trying to figure out how to mate it to the oval filter

 

torches I guess. I don’t know why but I have so much invested in random intake parts. I can say this thus far, an in-line filter with a Tundra throttle body into the cowl is loud as hell inside the cab. My wife has given the NO GO signal so I am bouncing around find another point of entry. Snorkel is a last resort.

 

The Tundra MAF uses a different connector. You'll have to likely grab a pig-tail from a wrecking yard and get a MAF Extension harness (URD sells one, I'm sure there are others) to splice that into.




Attached you'll find a 3UR-FE Engine EWD which should give you the pinout information you need to make a conversion harness. @Roostfactor did this or at least something similar when we proofed this. I'm sure he'd be more than happy to share the details.

Does make for a nice pre-calibrated setup that has a higher airflow ceiling than the stock setup.

Yes, you can do it no problem.

If you do not have a Tundra CAI already I have one with a K&N drop in panel filter, with the connector attached to an already in place MAF just sitting in the garage gathering dust. It's basically complete and ready to go.

That's the tundra pigtail for the tundra sensor to plug into. The Tacoma end I bought right off Amazon

 

then cut one end off to make your extension.

 

With all my changes is it worth looking into the Tundra TB or other TB than the Tacoma for more flow? I am assuming yes.

Throw a larger oil filter on and run 6qt of your favorite flavor oil.

why not. There is a certain balance and slowing of air through too large of a passage point. The Venturi effect can be lost as well. Air travels faster when moving around objects. Bottom line: I have no F’ing clue. However, I am slapping a Tundra TB on and seeing what the engine tells me about it. I am more practical demonstration trial and error than theoretical approach.

 

What’s the point of having a larger throttle body when one has a snorkel?!
