Body lift would be to match the bumper. If the bumper would fit properly without one I wouldn't do it

Sorry to revive old thread, but just curious what you ended up doing? And which bumper you have in that picture? Pelfreybilt?

Ended up not buying the bumper since I found out the steel was significantly thinner than that of the production model. It is an RCI bumper

Thanks! I am really torn between RCI bumper and Pelfreybilt. Are you happy with your bumper? Anything in particular I should keep in mind while deciding which one to go with?

Mine will be ready for me to pick up in a week or so, check my build thread for updates on it if you're interested! I would keep in mind options for light bars, materials (steel vs aluminum), and personal preference with looks. It seems like most of the highly regarded shops make similarly great quality stuff. Other than that, keep in mind pelfrey, cbi, relentless, rci, etc require cutting the stock bumper while some companies just bolt right up

I am with this. I would just spend the extra couple hundred bucks difference from a (-50% bumper + time and expense to make it fit) and buy a new one. If it costs $250 to cut, re-weld, and recoat the bumper, you only saved $250 max. Not worth it IMO.

If I spent $250 modifying the bumper, I still would have saved $700 over the price I paid for a new bumper. The whole point of this was that I had an opportunity to buy a bumper for $250. However, I did not purchase it, and had a new one made.

What makes a bumper made for a one inch BL? Can’t you just make the cut on your stock bumper an inch either way accordingly to compensate for it?

The bumpers (front and rear) are mounted to the frame. When you lift the body 1” off the frame, you create a 1” gap between the bumpers and frame. An after market bumper built for a body lift has mounts designed to compensate and cover this gap

no no I get that for sure, thanks for the clarification though. But say you need to cut 3in below the fog lights to accommodate for the bumper you buy normally. Well if you get a 1 in body lift, what if you make your cut 2 in below the fog lights now. It should match up

As in you modify the cut you make with your Dremel or angle cutter to accommodate any bumper? Is that doable? I’m looking Into it why I ask haha

Definitely seems like it would be doable, there would likely be no problem with the corner areas, but you might run into some other issues. Headlight tubes being too high (if you have them), possible collisions with the grill, etc.
