Does anyone know the different styles/models of the OEM Headunits for the 2012-2015 models? I'm looking at a 2012 and I see this radio in the pics.

This is a TRD OR Access Cab (and based on the photos with tow package) which would lead me to believe it was one of the highest package available but that headhunt looks kind of basic. Also I know that some models came with or without a clock in this year but I'm not sure why. Does anyone have any insight?

-The 2012 had a touchscreen radio with and without JBL (USB, aux, XM, Bluetooth)
-Then the premium non-touch radio, with and without JBL. These had AUX and maybe USB, but not sure about Bluetooth
-Then the standard radio, that had nearly no options

the JBL systems had JBL logos on the speaker grills that the picture you show doesn’t have, so it’s for sure not the JBL system.

this appears to be the non-touch premium radio, without JBL.

Ah ok thank you. I would assume Bluetooth because it appears to have the buttons on the steering wheel. I did a little research Saturday night as well and see that they changed again in 2014. The 510074 is the radio to have but not too easy to come across.

2013-2015 HU is lousy and plain mediocre. Any single din head unit from year 2000 sounds and works much better than this turd. Ive had basic, intermediate and flagship kenwood single din units with great success. The most basic unit sounds fantastic with a pair of 6x9 speakers.
But the tacoma doors sound terrible, hollow and totally awful because Toyota decided.to leave giant holes on the inside part of door.metal, instead of leaving them intact, so the door structure worked like a proper acoustic box.
No. They left a giant hole, even left the mini.holes to.fit a cover, but always the Toyota way came into cheapness first.
As for the HU, those cant even play USB stick files using folder structure, as some engineer decided to not include this feature, making.file.play a tooootal mess.
Any album.tagged with a different artist name is taken as a different category, lefting you playing very few songs if you ever play things by an artist.
I.replaced the thing with a Kenwood double.din, a pair.of 6x9 and have to sound deaden and cover those holea at doors interior to make speakers sound decent.

Do you still have your original HU kicking around?

Well the buttons on the steering wheel are just for volume, track/channel, and source. I don’t think they had any phone buttons on the wheel, even on the ones with bluetooth

I have one I just took out of my 2013, non Jbl, touchscreen. Just put in a Pioneer head unit.

Ok I'm going to keep that in mind. I may buy a 2015 but we'll see what I actually end up with.

If you are thinking of swapping anything, for the effort required I'd go with an aftermarket head unit with android or apple CarPlay. You can get some good units for a few hundred bucks.

Any recommendations for a solid HU to install in my 06? I love the look/screen size of the Halo9 but it's a bit more than I'd like to spend at the moment.

There are lots of great units out there, I can definitely recommend the Pioneer DMH-1500NEX for an apple carplay headunit. Boots up fast, works great, and makes the stock speakers sound pretty good, close to a 7 inch screen, physical buttons for turning up sound, and the price is right.
Try going to a couple of shops and seeing what the lowest price is they can do, mention you went to the other shop looking at prices, I ended up getting a better deal locally than off of Amazon or ebay.

Thank you! You mind me asking how much you got it for? I was just reading another thread about the Dasaita (not sure on spelling) and I'm not sure if it'll work in my truck or if I'm even tech savvy enough to work it lol.

I ended up getting it for $380 CDN plus tax with free install. I did have to pay for the trim piece and a few odds and ends but pretty cheap overall.
I thought about doing an install myself but with free labor install from the shop I went that route.
