Looks pretty slick but the reviews on their website give me a bit of concern.

Was also looking at Backflip MX4.

I want a hard tri-fold that will flip all 3 panels up for full bed access.

Ok...even if you don't have the cover yet....any thoughts?

I read that the vinyl is glued to the panels so it shouldn't flap.
I do worry about it fading - though I had a soft top vinyl for 10yrs and didn't really notice the fading (though I'm sure it did).

I also worry that the vinyl would 'crease' if the cover was opened for longer periods of time.

i have the Extang Encore which has fold up access from both ends. i think it's better because you can fold the rear panel up from the gate, and the front panel back from the cab. you don't need to fold the back twice to open the front like on that one. really like it. the single downside for many is that it requires lowering the bed rails with the included brackets.

I can see how that would be handy. I previously had an Access roll-up tonneau cover. I hated to unroll it but was always diving in there to grab something that slid to the front. Having access up there would be nice (though tri-folds are much easier to open than roll-ups).

i would definitely buy this one again, but if i used my bed rails for mounting anything aside from smaller in-bed items then I'd look at another model.

In for more on the Extang Xceed.

Really tough to find info on this particular TC, presumably because it's a newcomer to the market. I decided to pull the trigger due to the overall success of the extang brand, hoping that they didn't make a dud. I really like this cover on paper. Normally i'm the guy who waits for everyone else to guinea pig it first but I guess it's my turn.

I'll be back with some info here at some point.

I have an Xceed and it pretty awesome. You do have to lower the rails in the bed for the install on the Tacoma. Only bad thing is the clips that hold the struts are pretty low quality. Called Extang, they replaced them no questions asked. I would definitely buy again.

We have sold quite a few of the MX4's for sure and a few Exceed's as well to members here.

Honestly the fading and creasing aren't likely to be issues of concern. The fading will happen some over time but you aren't likely to notice it.

MX4 has been the best selling cover from BAK for quite a while.

I always advise taking a look at the Undercover UltraFlex as well if you are looking at the MX4. Very similar product with a lined underside and rail light. They also have a $100 mail in rebate starting on those tomorrow and going through mid March.

Feel free to PM me if you have specific questions. We also offer heavily discounted pricing to forum members on all of these covers and more so I would be happy to get you some pricing as well.

Installed the Xceed over the weekend. It was packaged well and arrived safely/full intact with zero damage. I was impressed with the overall quality and completeness of the kit. Install was very straightforward and easy, all necessary parts were included.

I will need to check in again later after having some time with it, but for now I can tell you that I am feeling like this was absolutely the best option for my needs and I would recommend it 100%.

Here are a few 3G Taco specific notes. The install was super easy, so just a couple highlights. There is a supplemental set of instructions for the Taco so most of this is covered there. There aren't a whole lot of 3G Taco specific visual aids out there yet so i'm hoping to help with that.

***You will need a T30 Torx bit***

The kit includes these foam squares that you stick on either side of the header. Removing the header is really easy, just 5 fasteners (T30 torx).

If you have the factory rail system, you'll need to remove it (T30 torx). Again, easy.

The cover is secured to the truck using two long rails that run longitudinally on each side of the bed. They are attached to the truck using these aluminum brackets, which mount using the holes from the factory rail system. The original fasteners are re-used. Be sure to use a in/lb torque wrench rather than a ft/lb torque wrench. Only 66.5 in/lbs needed on these little guys.

While installing these ^^^, pay attention to this little rubber seal and make sure that it doesn't get folded under itself.

Now it's time to re-install your factory rail system. New fasteners are provided (T30 torx), and again 66.5 in/lbs.

The rest of the install is non application specific and covered well enough by the included install instructions.

    Finished product:

P.S. - I just moved to the PNW a few months ago, and it rains a lot. I should have good feedback regarding weather resistance here soon.

So how's it holding up in the weather? Pretty close to pulling the trigger.

Been great, very happy so far.

A couple occasional wet spots in heavy sustained rain, but they are relatively small and 98% of the bed remains bone dry.

I have a short bed and the length of the cover is spot on. I know they have a long bed specific model as well.

I'm assuming that you confirmed your part number was long bed spec?

I had a dealer install and it seems a tad short. I think I might call Extang tomorrow.

I bought an Exceed on Amazon over the weekend for $842 and free shipping. There was also a $100 rebate, so for $742 it was a no brainer. This is my third Extang tonneau, both others were tri-fold soft and were like new after 7 and 5 years of use before I traded out the trucks they were on. Hopefully I will get the same use out of this one. The tonneau came in on Tuesday and I installed it in about an hour. everything fit well, and it looks awesome on the truck. Like a previous poster said, the clips that hold the struts seem pretty flimsy, but otherwise it seems pretty durable. I will try to post some photos later.

Returned the BAKflip and bought the Extang Exceed. Totally impressed. No water in the bed since the installation in January. I'm in Florida and we have some serious downpours. IMG_4953.jpg

Considering buying the Extang Xceed, did you ever resolve the problem with the rails too short? I also have a long bed. Anyone else here install the Xceed on a long bed?

I understand this is an older thread but I have an Extang Xceed for a 3rd gen 5ft bed I’m selling.

New in box, was a warranty replacement. Opened to inspect contents and hardware. I just decided to go with a Retrax.

Worked well for me, I just want a retractable cover.
PM me if interested. Asking $600
