Considering a new 2020 myself and will most likely buy next month but a lot is going to depend on the economy, how under control the outbreak is and most importantly, what kind of incentives Toyota will come out with in April. Check here and enter your zip for regional deals to find out. https://www.toyota.com/deals/tacoma/ $1,500 cash back looks to be the best they can do for this month.

Situation is very fluid, I would imagine it would be like that everywhere. Some dealers are closing their showrooms in certain regions (California) while others are going above and beyond to keep things clean while maintaining social distancing or even offering to complete the purchase 100% online and deliver the vehicle to your home. Things could change a lot in the next few weeks but I'm hopeful Toyota will offer some deep incentives.

seems like waiting 4 weeks to make a big purchase would be wise.

    Im leaning towards this ..

I guess I could be swayed if there’s a great deal like most are saying . What I was seeing leading up to this mess was 36k for an Off Road. I want to add leather seats to it though I’m sure price will go up a bit.

All of these dealers need to sell X number of units per month. We know there is no way they are going to make it this or next month. By April/May EVERY sale will be crucial.

Toyota only had a 54 day supply of cars a few days ago. GM had 84, 60 is considered ideal.

^^ This and I read news somewhere Toyota temporarily stopped manufacturing cars until end of March = less demand and less supply.

For March it seems like trucks aren't selling well.. Toyota just added an incentive as of late last week for So Cal - "first payment deferred for the first 90 days"

That said, I really don't know whether it's seller or buyer's market. It would be a tough call for me.

I kinda wonder about this kind of advice. I'm not saying it won't happen, but if buying is slowing because of the virus and production is slowing because of the virus, which one will be short? We won't really know where supply and demand will be. I'm not sure what will happen.

When rates go negative auto loans will go to 0% if you have to finance even some of it.

I would think that if they have only sold a small fraction of their normal sales for 4-6 weeks straight that production won’t really come into a local sales manager’s decision, I’d think they will need some sales no matter what, especially for new vehicles. Just my thoughts though, who knows.

Ah I highly doubt there was any sarcasm in that suggestion.

So what the idea is to buy low? And when/if this blows over you come out on top?

    1. Only if you can afford to lose the money (I have 1000 shares each of Enron, if you're interested) Edit: not the best example, how about Conseco or Global crossing?
    2. Only if you can sit on it a couple years, if you're looking to make a killing.
    3. Only if you're willing to forgo dividends......not many companies are going to be making a profit in the short run. Most will have huge loses.
