With the Wildpeaks, Softopper (aero drag), and some more weight in the bed, that has dropped, esp in the winter. I am looking forward to the summer and taking the ST off to see how things are stacking up.

I'm a fan of the 5 speed auto in the 2nd gen. Only gripe is with hills and cruise control....it always lets speed dip about 3mph, then kicks down a gear to get back up to speed. Other than that, happy with it.

Nope. No push button start on the MTs. I don't know about 2020s, but prior to, there was no JBL audio option on the MTs. Also if you want an ACLB, you only have the Sport option. If you want a DCSB, there's the OR and Pro.

If you are considering a MT, definitely don’t get the AT. I did... now I have a MT.

from the factory, it’s light years ahead of the AT. the minor quirks it has can be easily remedied with the ADM (accumulator delete, more predictable clutch throw) and OVT 2.0 (more low end power)

Good to know. I was asking more in general. I didn't follow, but it seemed there were a lot of 'problem' posts on here the first couple years.

Shellshock has it right. the main thing was the pathetic factory tune that muted the motor and made it a very poor and difficult drive esp for the MT drivers. OVT has that totally fixed now. the other is the ADM to delete the hydraulic accumulator and gain much more direct feel and ability to modulate the clutch. after that it's mostly little things.

Stock gears slightly above 2000rpms with 35s and armour on giving me 21mpgs with correct speedo adjustment after.

Get the MT and don't look back.

Mostly the 2016s, and just a larger percentage than is normal for Toyota. The 2017s were more or less normal, esp after Toyota released the TSBs for the ECUs, diff whine, and a couple other small things. This forum really quieted down after about July 2018.

I would not hesitate to buy a 2017 or up and would just have very close look at a 2016 including the manufacture date (late in the year is better) and have the dealer pull the service records to see what work and TSBs were done.

true, there were a few of the early 16 trucks that didn't take the ECU tune like the later trucks. one of our guys here dumped a 16 MT and bought a new model MT because he couldn't get it to drive right. if i was looking used i would go for the 17 MT. if you don't mind the safety nannies then the later trucks are also good.

Actual AT owner here with all the latest TSB's. No issues with any of the early problems that plagued the AT. The AT is fine, but it's an AT. If you enjoy driving a manual, no AT will suffice, but a lot of the AT woes are either overblown, or non existent at this point. At the end of the day Smode in 5th drives at almost the exact same RPM as the second gen AT in 5th.

Even the MT guys are saying the MT is good once you do a bunch of mods, Toyota does not make a perfect tranny in this gen, both have their quirks and can be remedied with some work if you are so inclined.

I’ve got over 100,000 miles on my 2017 and the only things I’ve had to do are fluid changes and tires. It’s been rock solid.

thanks for posting and i'd like to agree, but honestly if i was buying a AT 3g truck i think it would be a crapshoot with normal AT performance. i still see complaints around here daily. and many by folks who claimed to test drive. kinda confusing.
