What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Ok. Today is day 3 of our self quarantine. I got sound deadening sound insulation installed in the cab. I already have the deadening in the doors, so tomorrow I'll get the rest of the insulation in the doors. I'll be getting some black carpet to cover the foam.

 

I know a lot of people install sound deadening, but does it work well? what kind of sounds were you trying to cut out.

 

I'm about to start this project myself. Got any more pictures?

 

I called that the squid launcher button when I had my 3rd Gen.

 

Sound deading cuts out vibration/reverberation through the sheet metal in the cab. Sound insulation (foam) is used to try to cut down on exterior noise heard in the cab. Also, at higher speeds the noise frequencies coming from outside can cancel out frequencies in the music you are trying to listen to.

Expectations can depend on a lot of factors but basically the thicker you make it the more sound it will keep out. But if you want a number...

If you completely cover the doors, floor, and back wall, with sound deading and foam insulation 150mil to 250mil thick you can expect 10 - 15 db improvement.

 

I only had the k&n. It's a lot quieter which I guess I like? Everything else is the same. The dry filter should keep my maf and throttle body clean though.

Well I just took test drive. I noticed a bigger difference with the deadening in the doors. Yes, there is a little difference, but not enough to pay a stereo shop to do it. Like I said, I had a free day and got 36 sqft. of the deadening for $20. After the doors I figured why not use it. I think I noticed more noise coming from the engine and transmission now.

 

Yeah but they're not much better.

 

I'd like to do the roof, but if I had more material I'd start with the firewall. Plus I'm not the most patient guy and I'm worried I'd mess up the air bags or worse yet not necessarily be able to get the headliner back in correctly.

 

Best time to polish that paint is right after claying!...

 

Replaced my spark plugs today. Had an endoscope on hand so took some shots of the top of my pistons. Not too bad for 110,xxx miles if I do say so...

 

The firewall would be more difficult. The roof is easy and you shouldn't be worried about the airbags deploying. The headliner is easy to do, just make sure your hands are clean and try not to crease the headliner.
