    Hey Guys,
I think I have a problem with the shift lever on my 4.0 Automatic. It won't go into park or the 2 & L gears and when I do put in park it just rolls and makes a click like it is trying to engage but just cant. Also I have to put in neutral in order to start it.

Anyone run into this problem before and if so what was the fix?

    Willy

Follow the shift cable to the tranny. On the other side is a switch. That switch is known to stick. Spray it down with wd 40. Make sure you get between the switch and the tranny.

Better just go ahead and bite the bullet and replace it. They are known for getting corrosion inside.

Mine did on my 2013 2.7 auto. Before I replaced it I douched it with penetrant/lube. Loosened up pretty well and warning light went out. Knew this was too good to be true and that it wouldn`t last long so had Toyota put on a new one. Has worked fine now for over two years. You could do it yourself- like two bolts and a connector but I figured with my luck I`d screw it up. Just bit the pillow when they gave me the bill. About 400.00 installed.

The hard part is the compression fitting onto the shaft if it is corroded and rusted.
