CA smog reasons is the only reason or I would have dropped my name last fall on the list. I chatted with him about retrofitting some but still wouldn't be CA compliant. Trying to game the system as much as I can without being too far off.

Is it a yearly inspection? Government run facilities or private gas stations? I'm really curious about this CA smog issue now. From what I've seen, most CA residents are similarly as cautious as you are.

Its every 2 years after the car is 8 years old. They are not gov run but have pretty strict standard that are regulated. You can try to find the one guy every 2 years that turns an eye or swap stuff out to do it. Just a pain. The other thing is the cats we have to use in CA and I believe NY are more strict emissions than all other states. I cant just grab a high flow cat or some random one. Need to have a specific one. For example just had is stolen off my Accord and it would be $2500 since there are no knock off versions. so Im running it with a straight pipe until I need to get a new one at reg time but then may just junk it.

Because of CA carb/emissions many products are not approved for CA. Later 2nd gens do not have headers, intakes, etc. There are the Doug Shorties which can have cats welded on but options are limited.

If it was not a regular use Vehicle it would not matter as much. I am on my last year of no smogs so that all kicks in end of this year for me.

Yah it sucks when you see some nice stuff and even says carb approved but in fine print or even large print not for use in CA. No cool car mods, no cool guns, so yah end of rant... Now how about some smaller pulleys?

Going to build the lower end before winter or sooner. Sleeve it, etc. Maybe then, smaller pulley.

@Torspd - do you reuse your head studs? Or replace every time you open it up?

I'm probably going to be one of the very few and far in between that says this...

YES. I reuse head studs. I always have for head gasket jobs or engine jobs unless there is a notable reason as to why they need replacing.

So that’s why you kept posting about URD. Are you on XRU? Shane knows a lot about that Rotrex setup. Is anyone running the c38r-112 yet.
