Fairly easy to install. If I recall correctly, it's power and ground to the control box; pos and neg to a 100W speaker and a pair of wires running to a momentary switch. If you get the version with a PA function then it has a seperate 3 pin connector specifically for that.

Thanks, I wouldn’t be getting the pa just the horn solo
Thats how I’d like it to function- via horn button on steering wheel. So when you say ran that back to the amp, I’m guessing you tapped/extended the wire for the horn from the grill to the amp in the cabin. Question, was there not access to the same wire in the cabin instead of running it from the grill or would that not work?

So the comment about needing another battery was more of a joke because of how much power it requires or is there serious concern with a single stock battery?

You could get a horn from a junk yard and mount it next to the factory horn. Should be cheap and make it twice as loud. Did that on my Wife's Camry because she was always getting cut off. The air horn videos above are pretty cool and may justify the extra cost.

    @DaBigDogg @mwc273 @Gunshot-6A

    sup boys,
I’ve been sitting on a pap112 amp install after failing my first go round.
I was able to establish some sort of sqwelch to the 100w speaker when testing the pa function and pressing the button, but no audio or power horn function with the momentary switch I have.
I did some shuffling of wires and got the same result.

is a relay not required to run this setup?
I see the instructions have an optional horn ring control using a relay, but I’m looking to run separate from factory horn.

For the life of me I cannot figure this shit out. not very familiar with the electric field, but I’ve managed to wire up multiple sets of led lights and clean them up with a fuse block/ circuit breaker so I’d like to think I have a basic understanding.

any tips or guidance is much appreciated gents :hattip:.

    thanks in advance

If youre referring to sharptone install, the oem horns ground out through the mounting tabs. For the sharptones, i just ran a wire from the ground tab to a ring connector that wraps around the mounting bolt.

Have you tested the switch? Ive had some that are DOA out of the package. Should be 12v in and 12v out

Was referring to a separate air horn wiring.
you are right, thanks for the testing reminder. I will definitely do that to ensure the switch is getting juice.

I thought you had a whelen airhorn,
But just stalked your build page and saw you have a Carson setup. Just searched that diagram, holy shit. I'm struggling with three wires.

Did you integrate this to your factory horn with a flip switch, or run an entirely different line with momentary switch ?
If different, did you run a relay?

The OEM horn has been scientifically engineered since freakin WW2 to cut through traffic noise...it maintains that delicate balance between loud enough to do the job, yet not loud enough to immediately send someone into cardiac arrest. It passes the DOT qualifications. More is not always better, and people have already thought this through.

I had an OBA set up for my lockers on my 13 Tacoma so i used a set of 3 chime train horns and they sounded awesome... mostly cause i like trains, not so much for honking at people.

I installed a pair of Hella Supertones and a pair of Hella Sharptones... Ended up with a very Euro-sounding horn. It sounds exactly like my 2018 VW Atlas, but significantly louder.

The Carson runs a 4 tone setup of a separate panel. All wires run direct from its control box so it is the relay essentially. Wiring isnt that bad if you just follow the diagram. Electrical is something that just comes easy me. :notsure:

In general though, a relay should be used for something like a airhorn.

This post just made me realize something. I've never actually used the horn in my truck(16'- owned it since new).
Being a firefighter, I've always wanted to put in a set of the Grover Stuttertones in my truck(that is the classic fire truck airhorn).

I've got a 2019 SR5, and my horn seems decent. Good enough for my needs.

    Lots, straight from the factory.
Yes. I installed a Whelen PAP. It’s quite loud and people definitely notice it. The PA is pretty awesome as well.
The Whelen took the place of the stock horns. I press the center if the steering wheel and you get the Whelen.
As far as horrid drivers, yeah, the PA has been helpful more than once.

You think that, but the sharptones are quite a bit louder. 70% I think. Once you hear them, you realize what a horn should be

Just to throw numbers out there, the OEM horns on my TRDOR are stamped 100 db. Hella Supertones are 118 db and Hella Sharptones are 114 db.
