Ontario BS Thread

Installed the no-name Android HU today. It's very compact and lightweight, held in entirely with the plastic bezel clips. No OEM screws are reused. I adhered the included GPS antenna to the back of the unit. My Subaru was the base model, with no backup cam, no GPS, no satellite radio, no USB... so the wiring was simply plug & play.



Transferred the air vents over then installed. All the plastic bits fit tight with no filing or finagling required.



It's basically an Android tablet adapted for car use. Google Chrome and Maps are preinstalled, using wifi from home or from the phone's hotspot. Poked around a bit and I see it supports Android Auto over wifi or USB, and Apple CarPlay over wifi as well.

 

my truck is full of tools and the rest is sailboat fuel, so i need other places to put stuff since 5-foot bed problems...

But but... you're a pick up too. What are you doing driving in the snow? That's a snowmobile's job.
and what about you and your offroading? You're not a jeep, you're a truck so get your own priorities straight!

 

This list got big pretty quick

 

only 5 people per group allowed per new government rule, so we are going to split it in 3 groups of 5 people that somehow all decided to go to the same Tim's on a sunny Saturday afternoon

 

Maybe everyone will have to bring GMRS/walkie talkies or CB's and park the trucks in a circle.

 

we'll take over 3 different parking lanes.
Ok if the Police shows up, this is our cover story;

We have the TEQ Group - That group will be 5 guys
We'll use @ODSC1 Bancroft Overland Club as another group of 5
and we'll have the TacomaWorld group, which will be another 5.
if we have more that 15 people,
the last group just "happens to show up at that Tims since it's local to them or something.

 

If we don't need to kill anyone...I'm out

 

We already have the rule of no more than two per snowbank...

We should be good.

Since we drive Japanese trucks, we'll follow Japanese traditional greetings of, bow at a distance...

No hugging of tires or sniffing the bumpers.
