I'm chiming in way late here, but do you guys know about the Alaskan gold dredge tailings?

Apparently there are some very big nuggets that were too big to pass through the screen on the dredge and went out with the tails. I know of at least one guy that found one with a detector and have heard about others.

Get a good Pi type detector, those tailings are thick!

I’m back, out near the Orange Blossom mine off Kelbaker Rd South of the 40- wow, is was dramatic sky all day long with t-shirt weather (ha, @Hobbs !).

Orange Blossom is a copper/gold mine, with several prospects in the area with some as old as 100 years.

    and some more recent...

I did some mine dump detecting and on the benches/wash but no oro...

There were neat pieces of quartz with chrysocolla (formed by water deposited copper solutions), some agate and chert.

And for @Hobbs , some nice wildflowers from a warmer part of the desert!

I did, Dips and Utas! (AKA Desert iguana and side-blotched lizards for non bio-types) loggerhead shrikes, and painted lady butterflies swarming all over- so much so my white bumper and windshield look like they were paint balled bright yellow (it’s going to be another big year for them). No tortoises or bighorn sheep though, even though we were in great habitat for them.

Hanging out near Temecula for an appt, got to drive up a truck trail into Cleveland National Forest,BFE22BD8-331B-441D-AE0C-CEB63E558746.jpg played around in a really cool canyon with my detector. Not much except nice stonecrop plants growing on the road cut. I have some growing at home in some pots with a lot of rock in them and they're one of the hummingbirds favorites in our yard. 57AB50B0-87D1-4A59-B77E-F7225928F6B1.jpg Detected some ‘hot rocks’ in a old stream bed in this same formation, and some good hits along one layer of sand above the old bedrock. Grabbed a bag full to look at and test home later.

I believe I have, and I'm trying to remember where...

Keep an eye out for the Desert Trumpet. They thrive in highly mineralized ground that coincides with gold.:drool:

Years ago I was driving through Red Rock Canyon and just happened to pull through the campground when the most amazing bloom was occurring. I will never forget the wide array of various flowers! It was amazing!!
