Show off your fish

How far offshore did you catch the triggers, how deep was the water? Here in NC you have to get into at least 90 feet of water, 20-30 miles off. From what I understand of the gulf coast you don’t have to go nearly as deep, just curious.

 

Are those striped bass in a couple of those pics? Can’t be...they’re enormous!

Yeah the pictures make them look bigger mine was probably 20lbs and the one my dad is holding was 37

30 miles about 100’ if I remember right.it was on a charter. I am far from an experienced saltwater fisherman.

 

I like to think I make up for my lack of experience saltwater fishing with my freshwater knowledge though. Caught this beast today on a flooded low water crossing near St Louis. All the dams are wide open and the surrounding area is too flooded to get in close enough so I had to find a new spot, but I would say it paid off.

 

That’s awesome. Triggers are one of my favorites.

 

Nice paddlefish, those are protected where I'm at. Never seen one in the wild.

 

Thanks! I think they are protected in most states. Oklahoma and Missouri have quite a few of them though to my knowledge. This is only the second one I have caught but hopefully I will be able to get that number up after I replace my reel that snapped at the neck while I was out today

I’m tempted to try and get the head cleaned like a euro mount but it looks like the only way to do it is with beetles and I don’t know if anyone with any. The result is pretty cool though.

What about an ant pile? Ive seen people do that with deer heads.

Best fight I’ve had in awhile, pretty good headshakes and lots of screamin drag... First time catching a shovel-nose guitar fish. That’s my size 13 not very well lined up with its nose
