I had a 2017 Honda Civic that had a factory remote start. It used to stay running but nothing inside used to work except the front rear defroster until you pressed the start button. But It never did turn off. I find the Tacoma a bit of a pain cos there has been two or three times in the last couple of months I started from the app, went outside opened the door and the truck shut off. When I got in pressed the start button the truck just rolled over and then stopped after 15 - 30 seconds. I press the start button again and it finally starts but missing and coughing obliviously its flooded.

I just picked up a 2020 TRD Off Road today and asked the dealer if you can remote start from the key Fob. He told me NO. Well I tries the lock 3x and it WORKED! Awesome, thanks for the info.

Cool feature, but I doubt I ever use it. Key exclusively goes into my pocket and doesn’t come back out until I walk back in the house after returning home.

2020 DCSB SR5 4x2. Have the SOS button but no remote connect or remote start.

Apologies up front if this has already been addressed and is already old news, but I could not find any reference to the 2020 Remote Start capability using the search function.

Just picked up a 2020 Access Cab OR w/ these options: LED headlights, TRD Premium Off Road Package and the Technology Package.

1. Lock the truck.
2. After a minute or so, the interior security light will start to flash.
3. On the remote, press lock and release.
4. On the remote, press lock and release.
5. On the remote, press lock and hold. (Continue holding until next step..be patient, it takes a few seconds)
6. Exterior lights will flash several times and the engine will start.
7. Engine turns off when opening the door or using the unlock function on the remote.

I found that you cannot lock the truck and then IMMEDIATELY remote start. You must wait for the security system to "set"...which is when the interior security light starts to flash.

Unsure if this is with every 2020 or is specific with a certain model or maybe even with a certain package. The owner's manual doesn't mention this at all (at least that I can find).

Ok gotta say it, I bought a 2020 OR DC with every option a OR could have, I mean every..... I signed the paperwork and realised I just bought a new truck without remote start, made the comment to the sales rep and he said they could add it for more money....... Well tonight I read this and while laying on my couch started my truck.. Thank you for this Easter Egg of good advice...

I have the 2020 TRD Offroad DC 4x4 with Tech Pack. Tried mine and it flashed 3 times on the 3rd long push on the remote. Engine did not start. Tried it again 5 minutes later. Now it will only blink once on the 3rd long push. Oh well.

Make sure you are pushing the lock button and not the unlock on the remote. I know that because...

Try a few more times mate...took me a bit to get on to it.

Most cars I've had previously, the engine shuts off when you touch the brake. Which makes more sense than cutting the engine when the door opens.

My 17 Sport with Premium and tech packages has remote start. Asked original owner ( I purchased it privately). He never added it and didnt realize he even had it until just before he sold it to me

Lemme make sure I am doing this right and remote start should be on my 2020 Pro so I think.

1. Turn off truck.
2. Push "lock" on the remote.
3. Let truck sit "locked" for one minute.
4. Push door lock on remote twice.
5. Push and hold door lock on remote for five seconds.

Does this sound right?
