Think this through a little bit. How am I going to transmit the coronavirus when I am 10 miles away from the nearest other human being? As far as we have been told, it is transmitted from close contact with other people and through mutual contact with surfaces. Neither of these are increased by driving a truck through a state forest. The one risk I see is that if I were to get sick, get hurt, or otherwise need assistance, I would need to interact with someone outside my local area and that could possibly cause the transmission of the virus over a long distance. These are all things I considered before taking the trip.

To limit my interaction with the local population, I packed everything I needed (food, water, clothing, camping gear, recovery gear, first aid kit, etc.) with the exception of enough gasoline because my Taco doesn't have enough range. I suppose I could have gone the extra mile and brought a few jerry cans full of gasoline, but I didn't because I figured that shitting in a ditch was against the rules thus I would need to stop at the occasional gas station regardless. You can fault me for that.

I also did an internet search to determine if the county in which my cabin is (a cabin I have been going to virtually every year since I was an infant) had published a "stay away" statement like some of the counties up north have, but I didn't find anything. I was only briefly there to sleep anyway. I figured sleeping outside didn't reduce any risks. If anything it increased the risk that I might be attacked by a rabid skunk and and need medical assistance.

Yes, again “spirit is the law” vs “letter of the law”

The governors order is to delay the spread of COVID-19 amongst the state’s population. This allows the medical support/infrastructure to be in place when the peak infection rates finally occur, and kick us all in the balls.

You are allowed to go for a pleasure drive, and you are allowed to enjoy the outdoors. Letter of the law.

You are driving 4-6hrs from your home in a highly populated metropolitan area, where the highest rates of diagnosis are found, to a rural area with a much lower incidence of the disease, and vastly underprepared medical support/infrastructure. Two facts have been established with this virus; 1. You can spread the virus even if you are asymptotic, and 2. the virus is persistent on hard surfaces. The opportunity of spreading this pervasive disease via asymptomatic persons or contaminated surfaces from the cities to rural areas is a very real possibility. If this occurs, the rural medical facilities will be more easily, and quickly, overwhelmed. By choosing to not drive half way across the state, and staying the fuck home, you are within the clear and established intent of the order. Spirit of the law.

On edit: You were not 10 miles away from other people. You were close enough to get photos, find a stuck suburban, etc.

Sorry if I’m coming off as a dick, but this disease sucks, and lots of folks are not thinking about their actions and how they affect others.

I fail to see how I am misreading the words, reading between the lines, or being a crafty defense lawyer. The order says very plainly that outdoor activities including "driving for pleasure" are OK. You are welcome to disagree with the order and think that it should be stricter, but you can't tell me that I am violated its "spirit" as written.

just wash and sanitize your hands, do NOT touch your face, maintain a 6ft distance from others, especially if they are hacking up a lung! maybe 10ft distance there!
its about all you can do :notsure:
my sister was over for dinner Sunday hacking away 2ft away from me, guess i will know in a matter of days if she had it and i get it or get it again
she does have some seasonal allergies she said so who knows

I never said you were misreading anything, you are making that assumption.

It seems that you are having issue with what “spirit of the law” means. This isn’t some crafty defense lawyer speak, it is an actual legal theory that is applied a whole lot more than you realize.

It’s amazing how all of the sudden so many people have “allergies”

this is why I’m staying the fuck home. I haven’t left in over 2 weeks.

are you an 'at-risk' person with underlying pre-existing medical issues?

just come down southwest to NE, its fairly relaxed here  lots of open prairie, cows and pastures with a hill or two thrown in for good measure, crops are going to be growing soon, too.

you know we even had one of the first group under quarantine from one of those ships almost 2 months ago at Camp Ashland and the UNMC

While recreational outdoor activity is allowed, it's just best to keep it to a minimum. Yes, the risk is low, but every action adds a chance of infection/spread and a lot of people are stupid - going on a drive turns into needing gas & snacks, etc... When people go out, it's easy to turn into "oh well I'm already out let me just run and do this really quick, etc." Good on that guy for at least thinking and planning ahead of ways to minimize any interactions.

Just something to think about... stay safe everyone.

Can anyone recommend a 4x4 shop in the Twin Cities area?

Has anyone had work done at 4wheelparts?
