@Squeaky Penguin i was going to point you in Greg’s direction, glad he replied ^

Sadly I have not added the bottom armor yet ha, I do plan on doing what Greg did eventually and replace the bottom two studs with bolts.

but yes, very much in vacation mode right now.

    Haven't updated in a while.

Saved my buddy from being stuck in the woods before vacation:

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr
[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr
[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

Ended up being a more complex recovery than I thought it would be, I got stuck just getting to him due to tons of rain, and had to winch myself out before winching him/snatch block winching to keep from winching him into a tree.

Getting him out revealed the shit job I did on the passenger side, when I rushed installing the shocks. So I moved them, and was able to do a good job getting it closer by slightly undoing the JIC fittings, which is terrifying but doable for minor adjustments.

    Before:

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

    After:

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

    Some vertical down welds:

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

Def a bunch of undercutting but should be solid.

    Coronavirus projects:

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

I built this with the stick welder, but some wasn't square, so I cut the not square parts out:

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

    Then rebuilt:

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

And welded my CO2 carrier to it.

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr
[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

    Favorite weld from that project:

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

That's almost done, just need paint and install.

Next up was under bed fuel storage based on this concept @Reh5108 made originally:

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

My idea was to hopefully add to it.

I have a tub that I carry a bunch of fluids and a 6 ton jack stand in. Eliminating that tub would be so much easier if I can find perm storage for that jack stand.

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

But I do not have nearly enough space I need.

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

So next best thing, another thing I always carry is a CV, and that's something I can fit.

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

I decided to build the carrier first, then worry about adding on the CV after I get the jerry can stuff figured out.

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

Very happy with the fit so far:

[IMG]Untitled by Michael Halat, on Flickr

Next up is figuring out CV mounting. Got a bunch of concepts in my head.

That's a sweet idea with the fuel tanks there, damn. I wish I had more steel than just scraps around here. I've just been making stupid shit

    Like dicks? :boink:

Yup bought all this steel with the steel I bought for frame boxing. Just haven't had time to tackle it all. I am saving 2 hours every day with no commute and WFH. I also bought steel for my welding table but not for legs or anything unfortunately.

Exactly :homer: Quarantine taking its toll. I haven't left the house in a week now. Of course now I'm out of welding gas so who knows when I'll get to refill that. I'm ready for the rona to go away.

lol. Looks good mike. In all seriousness I’d probably skin the bottom with a thin sheet of steel or aluminum just to keep road salt and rocks from kicking up and denting or chipping the paint on the Jerry cans

I mean I though about it, and I have both I can probably cut up to do it with, but I feel like why bother? The cans are steel and beefy to begin with, I am not really worried about damage from gravel or salt. :notsure: Figure maybe I'll run it for a year and reassess.

I haven't noticed any damage to my can yet. They get dirty but a pressure washer makes quick work of that.

    Good to know

Just rattle can with duplicolor caliper paint:

It's relatively new, those are the new tundy calipers.

Did you pull the third to do it? I'm feeling lazy. Might just double nut the two studs to pull them, replace with bolts, pull the drain plug and weld it up, and refill it... :notsure:

@slander You said you used regular bolts right? I rather those than allens.

Yea I used 2 regular 14mm bolts i had laying around replaceing the bottom 2 studs, you know the size that's holding like 90% of the truck together LOL!! Those are now my drain "plugs". I personally dont like Allen heads either. If you have to you can also screw in a bolt from the backside as a stud if some of yours pull out and you cant find any studs.

I would keep as many studs in there as you can as that would suck royal ass to try to get the 3rd back in without them.
