    2020 can kiss my ass

took the day off from all the insanity of work right now. Planned on taking the family out on the boat. Half way to the launch both hubs decided to grenade themselves.

a day on the water turned into a day of tow trucks and replacing hubs :annoyed:

The boat came with sealed bearings (dry bearings? Can’t remember the terminology) so there wasn’t a place to grease anything. Plus it never gave me any warning signs that I noticed

How do you service them besides replacing them?

from the looks of that picture, that “was” what they call an E-Z Lube axle, the hole in the end probably at one time had a grease fitting in it.
    https://youtu.be/XT0RKDGgDm8

Pull the wheel off the hub/lugs. See the nut on the end, take that off, and the hub slides off, outer bearing would have fallen out in your hand, inner would have been held with hub seal. Remove the seal, remove the bearing clean as needed.

    Pack bearings
    https://youtu.be/BhL1uAp_WCw

add some extra grease in the space between bearings when installed in the hub.

Install new seal with inner bearing in place

slide into axle, slide putter bearing on, install nut and tighten, spin hub as you are tightening, once nut is tight, back off a bit and lock it down.

Very nice! There’s a retainer clip on the outside. The inside of the hub you wouldn’t be able to remove without either the right tools or skill set. Neither of which I possess

it’s not as hard as you think, BUT ! for the cost of an entire axle the piece of mind VS repairing what you have could be worth it, then you know what you have, and when to service it.

you don’t know the condition of the axle tube itself, being in brackish/salt water it’s got rust in places you can’t see.

Hubs, bearings, seals aren’t terribly expensive. Time and not knowing the condition of the rest of the assembly can be.

Couple jack stands, a few buddies that are in the know, it can be fixed either way.
