Here's my Sumitomo Encounter AT in 235/85/16 LT (load range E). It's a good Japanese brand that seems to fly under the radar. I run Sumitomo tires on all the cars in my family.

Stock height and wheels on a 2018 OR.

Stock tires were 38lb, these are 51lb. Ride did not really change, except a bit more road noise. I run the fronts at 36psi and the rears at 32psi(chalk test). MPG lost of 3mpg.

These tires are pretty much unstoppable off road. I've never been more pleased with a tire.

Do you happen to have a pic from a little farther away? I like the look of this size tire!

I'm going to go with a set of tires in this size when my current ones are spent. It looks like ordering from tirerack.com and having a local shop do the install is the best way to get the tires I want. Has anyone gone that route and regretted it? My worry is not being able to get a decent selection just talking to a shop, and I certainly don't have the ability to mount my own tires.

I see little advantage of that size over 255/85r16.

Weight. Fuel economy. Power. Just a few I can think of.

I had them, Cooper Discover ATIII load E, on my 2015/2nd gen SR5. They did well on highways and some really nasty forest roads with lots of protruding rocks. I did lose about 2 mpg with them. I regeared to offset the sluggishness... better alternative would have probably been to keep in 4th until highway speed... no change on mileage with regear.

I think you are already paying that price by going to a LT tire. Also the OP said he was trying to avoid rubbing, but 255/85r16 or 265/75r16 will likely not rub either.

    Toyo Open Country AT3.

Coming from 265/75r16 Toyo Open Country RT. AT3's weigh in at 44lbs, RT's 53lbs. I expect to see significant boost in fuel economy and apparent power. The AT3's were considerably less expensive and easier to find.

My AT3's are 235/85r16. Thought that was implied since this is a 235/85r16 thread, should have specified.

For those curious, the SL 265/70r16 comes in at 40lbs, SL 265/75r16 comes in at 41lbs and the LT 265/75r16 comes in at 48lbs.
