Would you mind posting up a couple of pictures of your internal cage. I’m thinking of doing the same.

Awesome read. I too would like to know if anyone has a CAD they would like to share for a cap and a canopy. It would be nice to have so I could modify it before getting the local shop to CNC it.

What’s the best way to attach to the feet of the rack to the Thule rails? I have some of these but doesn’t seem like a strong enough option to hold the tent down. Maybe I’m wrong

    This is what @Bannerman did.

I pretty much copied him just with smaller feet.

Gotch ya so that thin piece of metal with the bolts slides in the track. Remember dimensions?

I just checked and my tracks are actually Yakima, not sure if they are any different from Thule. I bought some 1/8" thick x 3/4" wide aluminum bar from The Depot for like $5.It fit nicely in the track but I had to sand down the carriage bolts to make them fit. (they were too big height wise). you can kinda see in the picture where the tops of the carriage bolts have been flattened.

One other thing to note is that the feet hit the tops of the screws that attach the track to the topper. I ended up removing the screws to the topper one by one to slide the feet on. Kinda sounds like a pain but it really wasn't bad.

You can actually buy Flat Head Carriage Bolts on line for a reasonable cost. Search on Amazon and there plenty.

Since the majority of the racks discussed in the thread are for a camper shell/ topper, its not really cab specific. Your access cab has a 6' bed so you would need to make sure the rack is for a long bed.

Some people in this thread have made some DIY cab racks to match their shell racks. @franzgod made on that is pretty nice! Since you have an access cab, there is no factory roof rack mounting points. You would have to drill in some revnuts to attach a rack. Here is a good thread explaining how to install a cab rack on an access cab.

I did the same - not the best photo, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. And no leaks so far too.

Sorry been crazy busy with work...they are holding up great. They are galvanized so my black paint is flaking off but that is it.
