Ordered an aftermarket leather shift boot.

Adding this new thermostat I found.
I ran a super stat 170, it failed 4 months later,
Got a 170 from advance auto and it failed 2 months later,

Both of these looked cheaply made.

Just found out the Corolla OEM 170 thermostat fits the 3.4 motor, got it installed, everything's working perfectly

Highways temps are 168-173

The recently noticed I have been consuming a lot of methanol. A tank would last me 500 miles where I would usually do about 2k to 3k on a tank of methanol. It turns out a quick disconnect was leaking. Have you had any issues with them. I have been looking online but it seems like snow performance upgraded the style of connector.

That’s a place that does leak sometimes depending on the connection.

I did notice a very small Leak there after about 30k miles, so after looking at the hose there was a wear
mark grove so I cut 1/2” off the hose and alls good now, you have to make sure the slip connect is tight tho

The the problem is the hose sits at a 90° angle. I have to find the same quick connect with an attachment for the 90.
Aside from this I have 30k on the supercharger and 25k on the methanol kit and no issues.

 

I ended getting a low profile 90 degrees nozzle and an adapter that you install into the intake tube that holds the nozzle .
Before I had the long 90 degree nozzle

 

If your leaking from the thread you have to use a methonal resistant sealer like this

My issue is at the bottom of the reservoir. My bottle sits almost at the wheel well and the line rubs.

Devi’s own has a 90 degree push lock fitting and a self healing tank tap. Check them out saves space and solved my clearance issue.

John, what interval do you normally change the engine coolant?
i have roughly 30k since the whole system was purged almost a year ago
but am probably gonna do it myself this time, I have only had it dealer serviced the few times before roughly every 30k (but not every year, every other year or so) for $80 approximate
it looks easy enough to get the little drain at the bottom off from the topside and have no idea about the radiator cap, its still original as i can remember
one original owner on TW with the 96 claims to have never changed the engine coolant on his 440k truck, so he must be on the original radiator still

there is some 'burping' involved to get rid of air bubbles i have read about

 

I change mine every two years or so which is about 60,000 miles.
It’s super easy and quick.

One of The damages that are done from not charging the coolant is that small particles of rust come loose from the block over time and then those particles act as sandpaper with the water movement on the aluminum heads.
I have seen photos of the aluminum water jackets that were all worn down and causing head gasket issues. These areas the aluminum is thin to begin with.

there is a product out there from BG for coolant additive that could stop internal corrosion from what i remember reading somewhere online
darnit, now i must go doublecheck that flushing service i had last summer to see if thats what they used

 

That should work, the tank on the right was my stock tank with the rright angle fitting.

I bought a newer style tank from the junk yard for 30.00 that had the stock low level sensor
and moved the angle fitting to it.

I used a tap and die set to get the threads correct for a tight fit.
