SunuvaB, the boomer thread got locked already!

I need a better early warning system.

Yeah I was bummed, that one had so much potential. Whats a web forum without a raging inter generational war?

Who hired moderators anyways? We do fine around here without moderation. No one hardly drinks, pretty much everything stays on topic, and we're all so agreeable!

Absolutely. If it weren't for the mods, everyone would eventually get a long, dogs and cats would always be friends, pigs would fly, and the 3rd gen forum would be chock full of quality content.

    I'm sure of it.

Muscle memory fails when knobs are all close together and similar texture. How can your fingers tell them apart? Changing the color wouldn’t help, because I’m not looking at the knob when I turn it. I’m looking at the road.

Do you look at your steering wheel to turn it?

Changing the color of the 4WD knob is no solution because you shouldn’t be looking at it. Period. Full stop.

I’m strangely confident that I’m not the one in this thread who needs driving tips. Just in this thread mind you, I’m sure there’s a lot I could improve on but in this particular thread I think I’m doing ok.

I look at my knob when I reach for it. If you're not supposed to look at it, why is it labeled?

There's not enough room on my knob for a label :(

Agreed, one of my biggest gripes about this truck, the 4WD knob is in such a bad place. i as well end up touching the 4wd knob every now and then on accident when starting up and ive also grabbed the 4wd knob on accident trying to turn up the temp on my hvac. Drivetrain controls should not be so easy to inadvertently actuate/control.

Same here when i owned the truck during the first cold fall day...mistook 4wd button for the fan when wanting to defrost my windshield. Noted the green blinking dash led, and said wtf to myself before realizing what i did.

When I had my dodge ram lease for the last 3 years, i also still had my nissan xterra. The dodge had a radio knob to change from park/reverse/drive, it was so strange to not have a shifter. Id get in the nissan and turn the climate control knob and wonder "wtf, why isnt this thing moving? It would happen once a week sometimes. Im glad the Toyota has a shifter. But i admit, ive always been skeptical of a knob controlling my 4wd. But the nissan had the same knob, never failed.

Can't say I've ever had this issue. Not to mention it is far easier to differentiate between these knobs than it is in the GM twins. Their 4x4 knob is the exact same size, shape, and texture as the headlight knob that sits right next to it.
