I have the previous owners (PO) service records for my new old toy (1999 3.4L 5sp 4WD Tacoma) and discovered one ignition coil was replaced with an after market (Non Denso) about a year ago with the service tech note that they should bring the truck back in and replace the other two when the parts come in. I also see they charged about $400 for changing out one forward coil which takes about 15 minutes.
Has anyone had hesitation or engine missing at hwy speed with mismatching coils? PO stated plugs were changed when the timing chain was changed about 40k ago. I’m leaning towards changing all 3 coils, wires and plugs so I know it’s a total OEM refresh and gapped to specs. Then I can see if hesitation issues resolve or I need to go down another rabbit hole. Any advice on best coils? Shows Densos as OEM, but not apposed to upgrading if truly beneficial. Thanks

I just received the new set of OE Denso coils, plug wires and plugs today from Yotashop. They shipped and were delivered in two days. I believe a total OEM refresh should help. I also cleaned out the intake, MAF sensor and filter. Heck, it's new to me so I detailed the engine bay while I was there. Should be a nice project this weekend. I will update when finished. Thanks for the help.

Wow! Coils, wires and plugs replaced. I haven’t seen plugs so worn in my life. Barely a nub, I’m surprised is wasn’t missing more and throwing codes. Test drove it on the freeway and feels much better. No hesitations! On to the next project.
